If it's not environmental fallout then the dealer is going to say it's chips and it's not covered under warranty. Even if they take care of it for you they will have to most likely paint the entire roof and that will open up a whole other can of worms. My advice is to hit it with a clay bar just to make sure it's not rail dust (metal filings embedded in the paint) and then just touch it up and live with it. From multiple experiences I can tell you having the dealer repaint something for you can be an experience you will regret! It's next to imposable to replicate the factory finish and have it hold up as well for many reasons.

Buy it from the dealer, it's 10 dollars or so.
Those look darker than fallout spots but it may be the pic.

When you rub your finger over the rust spots, do you feel a dip in the paint or a hole, like you would if it's a chip? If the paint underneath is still flat and not chipped, then it's most likely a surface problem and some rail dust stuck to your paint. A claybar and clay lubricant will fix this. This is very easy to do and you can do it yourself instead of the risk of having the dealer screw you.

Looks like rust spots to me which most likely occurred from flying road debris. Get some ospho and treat the spots before you try to touch them up. That stuff kills rust and also acts as a primer. Use a smaller brush then what comes with the paint and apply a few coats over time versus one coat.

its free to take it to the dealer and have them check it out...why not just do it (dunno)

i understand your frustration. i'd take it in, but the best you can do is fill 'em with touchup, smooth em out, and keep an eye on the area. no sense sanding out the whole roof for something so small.

Rust/corrosion warranty applies to holes, not surface rust. . Read the wording in the warranty booklet if necessary.

Wisnia the paint problem will have nothing to do with your intake. You are paying for for your warranty each month, if you are uncomfortable with dealer then get an estimate from a shop. You are under no commitment for an estimate as long as you sign nothing. And then there has been good advice on do it yourself. Funny though Mazda mailed me touch up paint not too long after I bought the car. hmmm. I suggest you do not let it fester. and fix it, buddy.
