I need to buy my wife new tires for her cx7. We are just about to have a baby so road noise may be an issue to consider and of course they must be safe.

I have narrowed it down to these 3 (all 255/55/18)-

Road hugger XRT

Continental CrossContact LX

Falken Ziex S/TZ04

Does anyone have any experience with these? Suggestions are welcomed too.

Thanks.

I have the COOPER ZEON XST and i love them man, wide stance somewhat of a directional look awesome handling and we get s*** load of snow, GOOD for winter and GOOD for summer.

it was cheaper to up in size, i guess the stock size is not as common, i found this to be true with my ms3 also.

I just put the General Grabber UHP on mine last week. My Eagle F1's were about bald and had a couple of flat spots. They wore crappy but sure were sticky. (drive)

The Grabber UHP's are about the same price as the Nittos. So far so good but like you I have only had them a short time. We shall see...

tires

Out of your choices I would recommend the Continental, I used to work for them, the LX is a quiet tire and has good wear ratings. I have roadtested the LX on a road course, good wet traction as well

Falkens are known for sidewall spliting, among other problems. this is due to them not using the same rubber compounds as the brand names. This is why they are cheaper

Please provide some sort of quantifiable data to back up these claims. I have had it with your constant slamming of tire brands that for some reason you dont like.

If you can provide viable info that relates to your above claim I wont give you an infraction.

Puzzled by your response

Killer, I'm a bit puzzled by your obvious antagonism towards Mr. Pirelli. IMHO, his opinions are just as valid as yours or mine. So what if he heavily favors Pirelli. I value his judgements, so that I, as a consumer, can learn a thing or two. In the same regard, I find your informed opinions about automotive topics illuminating and quite helpful and I've learned from you, too! If you really like Bridgestone, for instance, then to me, that's entirely acceptable.

Granted, Mr. Pirelli has an agenda, as he's an advocate for that brand, but I don't find it objectionable. I'm just wondering why you do?

Thanks, Vince.

The fact that we all know he has an agenda means that he should have to back up the claims that he makes. Not all users are fully tuned in and may take these comments at face value, without knowing that there is something behind his words. If he wants to push sales, he should become an AV.

I realize the irony that he was playing off of my comment regarding the Falken's. But broad sweeping generalizations about any particular brand are not helpful, as every manufacturer produces a range of products manufactured in different ways...

Mr Pirelli has been warned several times and even banned once for his spamming the site with biased comparos and down talking other tire brands without ANY quantifiable data to back up his assertions. I call that SPAM.

We have rules here, and we are looking out for the members best interests and having some biased Pirelli Fanboi come into the forum and spread unsubstantiated BS is what the problem is.

Well said. (alright)

I was going to get the Falken's you listed, but I read a few reviews and some were saying that they were getting splitting and blowouts at higher mileages. I bought these instead:

Can't give you much of a review on them though, as I just put them on yesterday. So far, so good though... :p

Let us know what you think of those Nittos, I'm thinking about getting them too. Did you upsize to 255/55/18? I know zip about tires so please describe how much wider/lower these are than our stock Turanzas. Will it affect the speedo at all or do they not change the height of the tire, only the width? Thanks for any info.

I got these...

and love them. I also told them I didn't want the special warranty and they gave me a huge discount. There is a little bit of road noise but not bad. They are great in the rain and the mud as well. While camping I got sooo stuck I had one tire off the ground. My AWD pulled me out and then I pulled someone else out. I can't say enough about the Mazda or the tire.

Pirelli scorpion

I got the Pirelli scorpions at 35K, now at 50K & they are starting to make some road noise? Almost as loud as my Turanza's that came with my cx-7.

Tread still looks very good BTW, I actually had to replace 1 tire about 3 weeks ago after it managed to get 3 drywall screws in it, I assume I ran over them on the road. It cost me $291 bucks to get it replaced by a local tire shop (I needed it done right there, otherwise I would have ordered them on tirerack where I got the set of 4 in Nov 07).

Anyway, happy with the tread wear through 15K but they are getting noisy all of a sudden.

I bought the same Nitto tires and have been driving on them for two weeks, love them! Great in the rain, not too loud, handle very well, and give the CX-7 a whole new look. They are very agressive and the up size looks better than the stock tire size.

i've got 10,000 miles on my stock rubber and it needs replacing, noticed that my original size 235/60/18 is limited, noticed two tires that look promising in the 255/55/18 size need a little help any one have the avon st,or toyo proxie 2 on the cx7 and are there any effects to the suspension having this size balljoints, etc thanks
