MSP motor oil weight options!!!!

Well , I use Mobil 1 10W30 Synth , It still takes time to worm up in the first cold start(summer/winter). Nothing wrong with my engine and it doesn't burn oil at all.

I'm just thinking of changing the weight to get better gass/mile and as well as get good protection at the same time.

Now Mobil 1 synth its good DD oil and I'll be in that category with some spirited drive in between.

From what i've seen I'm looking at Mobil 1 synth 5w40 for summer and 0w30 or 0w40 for winter.

Now this will vary with location/weather you live in.
I'm in NJ and is known to have hot summers and cold winters.

Beside brand name oil differences that "might" as well have different outcome even in same weight is 5w40 something "good" for FS-DE T ,
Is it too thin or a bit more thicker then 10w30 ??

Any pro. or con. for using more zinc ?
5w40/0w40 has ~1000 ppm zinc then 10w30/5w30/0w30 has~800 ppm zinc ?

Engine is in stock internal for now.Future promises forge.

Let the Feedbacks roll in , thnx as always in adv.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w40 here no problems...ALWAYS...car runs like butter...summer winter spring and fall...

I recently just bought my buddies MSP, so I haven't changed the oil yet. He's been using what the MazdaSpeed manual recommended..."Lubricating oil should be 5W-30 or 10W-30 (depending on climate)". So he used 5W-30, I dont' believe it's synthetic either. Would it be better to change it and start using 5W-40 going forward?....I like butter..

I have been using 0w40 since I had about a 1,000 miles on it. No problems here. summer and winter.

where is "shy town" located ?? (poke)

how many miles you have now ?? ,
when you change it does it appear too dark ??

what are the weather conditions there in summer and winter ?

Whatever oil weight you go with make sure its full synthetic nothing less then that.

Depends where you live you can choose the proper weight though.
Hotter weather requires a bit thicker oil and in colder weather you could use thinner oil to get quicker worm up.

the xxW30 from xxW40 differes where xxW40 can hold more heat then the xxW30 one.

I guess I can be safe and use a 5W-40 Synthetic. I live in Cali, and it does get or I should say it has already become quiet freakin warm these days, during the summer that is. During the winter it can get pretty cold 35-40 degrees. Right now it's like 8pm and it's a solid 75-80 degrees.

Appreciate the insight...

chicago man. 90 degrees 90 percent humidity. No mine is always clean,of course I change my oil every 2,500 miles. 41,000 currently car runs great. 19lb spike holding 10 12 14 for thepast three years and pretty much 30000 miles.

I use Mobil-1 synthetic 5w-30 during the cold weather, and believe me it's cold sometimes in Montreal. And for the summer time/solo2/solo1/lapping season, I use the same oil but in 5w-50 viscosity. I change my oil about every 2500 miles and my MSP has close the 75K miles.

How are you controlling boost to get a 19psi spike? That's soooo bad!

manual, electronic. turboxs, hallman pro rx with lite weight spring profec a,b, types and now an aem tru boost. Same thing on all of them. trust me i know it's bad but my car seems to like it.

I've run 10w-30 since the begining and I just rolled 70k miles. Changed every 3k

Take a look at this guys:
http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Car_Care/AskMobil/Zinc_Motor_Oils.aspx

and check the table they provide to see the oil weights with zinc concentration.

If you read MSP requires GLIII motor oil, Now since the "new" GL-IV came out the regulation have changed to reduce the zinc concentration compare to GL-III .

10/5/0w-40 i believe are GLIII so thats why I'm thinking of getting 5w40 SuprerSyn (full synth) all year around.

I'll be double checking with some sites and give back the outcome.

Any one else has experience with 40 rate , except racing or auto-x , just DD and spirited driving is the concern.

Hmmmm, I think I might try that technique out with the 5w50 in the summer.

I change mine before autocross season (April) and after autocross season (October), which is roughly every 5000 miles. No need to do it more often since the oil is rated for 7500+ miles.

how much thicker/thinner is it compare to 10w30 one ???

I've been reading online but the best for spooling the turbo is 5w30 synth ,
I don't know now , its either 5w30 or 0w40 since 5w40 is thicker then 10w30.

I still change it at least once during the season since I have a co-driver and do some traveling during the season. I try to change my oil at least every 3 months.

We don't have the same oil weights in Europe, oil weight like 10w30 is almost impossible ot find.

Here new Mazdas are sold here with syntetic 5w50 with a service interval of 20000km/1yr, The 323s was sold with a service interval of 15000km/1yr

Any thoughs of how the MSP will run using 5w50 every oil change?

A bit unrelated, but going from mineral to syntetic, is it recommended to have one oil change blend in the middle?

that'll be big mistake to mix the oil types in between , over all engine might not show anything first time but in long run if you can afford synthetic stick to it from there on.

Well , you live in Norway which is top north and very cold up there, barely hot in summer.
I bet you guys have the diesel version right ?? They also use different stocks on the oils which give longer change oil duration .

Isbre - what oil brand you have aval. there, which one does Mazda recom??
which brand do you use ??

I'm going with mobil 1 0w40 fully synthetic next week , i checked the spec sheet for this oil weight + brand and it looks like its right about same as 5w30 fully synthetic but better protection and heat range.

AND i change the oil every 3k miles for mix drive and every 4.5k miles for highway drive.
Don't really want to change it longer intervals then those just in case to be safe.

I've been running Total/Elf, a 5w-40 true syn. for a while now and it just seams to run just a bit smoother since the change.
