2010 Mazda 3 Sport Five Door 6 speed
If you could ask three things of Mazda to do to the next 3, what would they be. Mine:
1. Offer the 2.0L in the hatchback
2. Improve all the radios and speakers
3. Increase the ground clearance. (I know nobody will agree with me on that.)

So many I would add have already appear to be in the works. (Increasing efficiency of both engines to increase power AND mileage, better sound proofing, a tad larger) I have been convinced to hold off buying a new 3 and wait for the redesign next summer. My 00 Protege ES is still fine and dandy.

The spy photos have suggested that the next one will have the Advanced Keyless entry and start. I really hope that makes it to production. I love it in my CX-7.

This article, along with pretty much all the other spy articles, say the new 2.5L engine will be a 20-30 hp increase over the current 156hp. I really hope they are right. But the new 6, which has the 2.5L as it's base engine, only makes 170. So I'm not holding my breath

Also:
Bluetooth connection for phones
Auto open and close on at least the front windows and sunroof. (all windows would be ideal).
Reversible cargo mat, carpet on one side, plastic or rubber on the other. (Love it in my CX-7, don't know if the 3 already has this).
Reverse Camera.
Blind spot warning like the 6 has
LED turn signals on the mirror.

Just plain wishful thinking:
Adaptive cruise.

Hatch release on the fob and dash
seperate dash lamps for fogs and parkers and headlights (now it just says when everything is on...)
adjustable front passenger seat like the drivers

take the jack pump crap off the driver seat, make the car feel like you sit in it, not on it.

Fix the weight distrobution to something better than 63% front.

One to add myself that will never happen, reduce the weight. The current 3 is a bit portly. I assume the next one will gain 50 kg at the least.

1. More powerful air conditioning

2. Few degree more of opening angle for the rear doors

3. Dump the Goodyear Eagle RS/A as the stock tires (or give the option to get REAL All Season tires to those of us living in the North East.............)

They have the 2.0L hatch in Canada for 08.5 Mazda3.
Agreed with radio/speakers.

I would hate more opening angle for the doors. My brother's 02 Jetta has this and I watched my sister in law swing the door open so wide it door dinged the truck beside us. She didn't think it would reach but the door opens almost 90 degrees.

Dump Eagle RS-A, I couldn't agree more. But most OEM tires are crap, so we'd probably just end up with something else equivalent. Putting "real" tires on cars drives up the price, which is bad for marketting.

For me:
1. Alloys that don't corrode after 9 months. They are nice looking otherwise.
2. Less notchy shifter.
3. No more kick driver's door to open flaw.
4. Slightly wider rear view mirror.

I'd be happy with just a little more angle, the doors are short anyway.

Maybe I'm biased by having three kids. The rear seat sees quite a bit of traffic in my car! (lol2)

And by the way, I hope that one thing Mazda will NOT change is rear leg room. For the exterior size, the current 3 is outstanding in that regard.

I agree on many of those. I don't know if anyone said this but they need to make the horn a little more manly sounding. I'm sort of embarrassed to use the horn on my car lol.

the horn, wow...if that isn't an anemic little thing...I try not to set it off when I lock the car up.

Im nit picky about stuff...

1) fully functional oral giving device under the steering wheel.
2) Hide-a-way arm rest in the middle of the back seat, love those
3) a center console that you might, just might be able to easierly(I made it up) replace the headunit.
4) The Hatch release by the gas lever I think is a must tho not really justified imo
5)Internal Harddrive with a min of 40 gigs, with a usb2 port.
6)Standard 7 inch or so display for atleast Mpg,service intervals blah, Navi optional.
7)Mazdaspeed 3 seats as an option leather or cloth
8)LED lit drink holders
9)Would be nice to have the hatch window be able to roll down, like the old school station wagons, but I know it wont happen
10)goes with option 5, but the ability to copy things such as CEL and AFR to a thumbdrive for porting to a puter.

and thats all for the moment :)

I know only 1 or 2 are realistic but w/e

Hatch release would be terrible, the thing would fly open and hit something. So they'd have to change the lifters to not push the hatch upwards on their own but still keep it fully open when it reaches that position.

Well idk, Ive never hit the hatch/trunk release lever on any car I have owned, so as far as it just flying open and hitting something, I would have to say there is a very slim chance that would happen. your solution to it would work though, just dont really see it as needed. the hatch release itself is not needed, I would just like to have that option

Why would you want to offer a 2.0 in the hatchback....?

Because it makes sense. Not much less power, weighs less and gets way better mileage.

I think they should offer something smaller for the sedan, say like a 1.8 DI.

well if your shooting for mileage,,,, I think its about time mazda released a 3 hybrid

Hybrids are not the best way to go for mileage when you factor in the extra cost of the vehicle and the extra enviro impact. BTW, those reports stating a Prius was a bigger polluter than a H2 were total bullcrap, regardless making a hybrid does generate many more pollutants than a regular car.

I'm sure that Jeremy Clarkson had absolutely no proof when he made that statement that a Prius pollutes more than a Land Rover Defender. However, if you think about it: How much pollution is caused by the ship going across the ocean from Canada to Japan with the Nickel, and then how much is created by the ship going from Japan to the UK with the Prius aboard. Those are 2 very long (and polluting) ocean journeys the Land Rover and its components didn't have to make. I guess I wouldn't be surprised if the net total polution is greater for a Prius than a Defender at least up to a certain mileage point.
