New BC Suspension Install

i tuned out the snap oversteer using the AWR rear sway bar. I then stiffened up the rears struts and it made the car so much more neutral on course. I stiffened up the fronts and upped the front tire pressures for better steering response. The thing I like about the BCs is that making changes to the suspension actually makes changes to how the car reacts, just like the Konis do for the STS guys.

Cool man.

It is fun to compare and share our setups since our cars are similar. With the higher negative camber, don't you get a decent amount of wheelspin in 2nd under full throttle? I know I've been getting some of that but with FWD I guess you just deal with it.

My camber is currently at -2.6 front/1.4 rear, 0 toe front and rear. Caster is maxed out at 2.4/3.2 not sure why the one side has so much more. The AWR bar is set to one full 1/2" deep socket away from soft, so probably 2 inches or so :D

I ran 30psi front/rear on my V710s last event and it worked well. Only at one part did the car seem unsettled too much. It was a relatively small lot and low speed though. The next event is at real big lot so it should be higher speed, I will try slightly higher pressures like yours.

I haven't really noticed it on the street because I try not to draw too much attention to myself. :D On the autocross course I get alot of wheelspin in 1st if I got WOT too early because of the 7.5lb flywheel. I actually need more camber because under compression it looks like most of it is going away. I used an infrared pyrometer to check basic tire temps, and the outside edge was warmer than the inside edge.

I know this is kind of getting off topic and might be answered somewhere else, but how do you know what the front and rear settings should be? So say if I was driving with a set of these installed, how would I know "Hey, my fronts need to be stiffened" or "Hey, my rears need to be a tad bit softer"?

i had an experienced driver with me and after he drove the car he said the steering was slow to respond (stiffen the front) and the car wasn't rotating (stiffen the rear). You can also help it rotate by stiffening the rear sway bar, but that wasn't an option at the event. I may still stiffen it a little...

In normal daily driving, having them set anywhere from full soft to 1/3 from soft will work really well.

The smoother the surface, the stiffer you can make the shocks without upsetting the chassis from bumps.

You don't want the car bouncing all over the place, so if one end is really bouncy, you can try turning the shocks down to a softer setting. They can be a good way to fine tune a setup for various conditions, and it will mostly take some trial and error with different settings to see what they do.

The rest of your setup can/will affect how you tune the shocks as well, but should not be used to fix a problem that should be solved with another part.

Does that make sense?, damn, it's not even that late yet.....

let me rephrase: that wasn't an option because i didn't feel like crawling under the car and messing with the sway bar after being out in the sun all day

we had canopys... (wink)

So there's no clearance issues with the front adjusters?
How do you adjust the back? Are they on the top as well?

The rear is adjusted on top, but of course, you have to take out the trunk lining to get to it. BC does sell an elongated adjuster that can be passed through the plastic trim pieces.

Thanks for the info.... That sucks it's on the top... with all the R&D they should have figured that one out... I like my plastic peice on there. It's been a while since i installed my rear STB but doesn't the seat belt bracket also cover the top of the strut?

yup. That's what drill presses are for ;)

ahh.... got'cha... wish i owned one...guess i'll just dremel a hole

hacking holes always seems to slip my mind

you know, i completely forgot about the stock parts back there. I have the plastic piece and the metal one removed from when i took out the rear seatbelts. Sorry about that guys.

send a PM to Shadow102. I know he had a "quick removal" trick for the rear deck in his MSP.

another new autocross review posted.
