Turbo Timer.....

If we needed Turbo Timer's in order to make our MS3's last longer, there would be alot of Subi owners in bad shape. Subi owners who don't know a thing about cars (excluding STI owners) and literally drive them and shut them off.

It's a water/oil based turbo. No need to let it cool unless you just got done doing 90mph a second ago, parked and kill the engine.

Technically the manual says you need to let it run after a freeway drive. But by the time you get off the freeway, you still drive to your destination throughout town and that cools things down as well.

This is just an opinion of course. Take it how you will.

Doesn't hurt to make sure. Plus, non-freeway driving involves some good turbo use too. many people driving the ms3 will be hitting 3k-3.5k on shifts, thats well into turbo power.

As much as your statement makes sense, its still a good idea, and in my opinion a necessity to let it stop spinning for atleast 30-45 seconds.

True, Since I've had my ms3 I've always let the car sit for a min. or two after driving. I normally drive the car pretty hard so that is why I do it. So no answers for the unlocked door thing?

i said on my post above that blitz would keep the doors locked after the car shuts off.

I ordered it through SU. I don't think I can exchange it. That's pretty stupid that they unlock the doors. I can't get over that. What a waste of money

2. What happens after the warranty is up? who has money to go replace a turbo?

up until two days ago, my tt works without a problem. i added a little bit of 14 gauge wire to extend the turbo timer e brake line and now i can't lock my car until the timer turns off. wtf

Hmmm..I have a ebay TT and I can lock my doors via remote with no problem...and they stay locked.

The manual directs us to allow some idle time to allow the turbo to cool. It's very possible that the Mazdaspeed, Subi ect. guys wanted a timer, unfortunately it's illegal in many places.

I am in desperate need of a turbo timer. I volunteer @ my local fire department and when there is a call I need to drive there pretty quickly...needless to say, I cant drive there quickly and wait around my car for 5 min for it to idle....

Anyway I was wondering which turbo timer you'd recommend? I'd prefer one that has some type of automatic setting because most of the time I drive pretty lightly, but there are definitely the occasional spirited runs, especially when going to the fire department -- so I'd like the TT to be able to decide how long to run the car for w/o me having to manually set it.

Also, I do not intend to do this installation myself. Any idea how much this should run me to install? Could an car audio/alarm place to do this (I'm assuming its mostly electrical stuff).

Just use a high quality synthetic oil and don't worry about it!

My understanding is that the main concern with low-tech, journal bearing style turbos (like the MS3's factory turbo) is that the oil would burn onto the bearing surface (oil 'coking') if the flow of oil stopped while the turbo was glowing hot. With high quality modern synthetic oils, 'coking' is not a problem like it used to be.
