Idea..

My 230* boost temps at idle at the track had me thinking about this. Except, all I would is use my power inverter to power a small fan that I could set wherever I want in the engine bay between runs.

Think of how goofy that would look to be in the staging lanes with a household fan resting in your engine bay.

I hate heat soak.

lol, that would be sweet. big ass walmart plastic box fan bungied to the front of the mazda. absolutely ftw.

and shane, i lived in louisiana a long time ago for about four years.

jennings.

nuff said.

and the caprice thing is now here too. saw a crown vic police interceptor no less that looked liked it had a super lift kit on it. you know, people that drive those cars tend to hate police but always seem to own old cops cars. discuss.

yeah ive noticed that about the old cop cars as well.

It's a carryover from the old days when cops had the best engines available.

"Daddy ran whiskey in a big block Dodge
Bought it at an auction at the Mason's lodge.
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side
Shot coat of primer then they looked inside.
Him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin sound."

i partly agree with that statement. but i also think it has something to do with the ability to by a car thats 2-3 years old at a very chep price through city auction. but on current cars all the police interceptor package adds is a beffier suspension to handle the added weight that they hall around, upgraded amprage alternator and missing some intiror pieces. for the radios and lights.

with all this talk of heatsoak, why then is subaru stupid and continually makes tmic for the wrx while the evo has them in the front? You would think then if heatsoak was such an issue and the wrx is supposed to be so powerful they would have eliminated the tmic for an fmic years ago and copied the evo fmic.

On our cars since we have a tmic that would have kicked ass (looks wise) to have made our hood with some sort of vent like the wrx has. would increase air to the ic better than the plastic ram air things mounded to the inside of the hood

Spray the Ic with water when temps get up there, some folks use those hand sprayers for weed control while they wait to run. It works though. There is a ram air system on the Speed 3 that forces the fresh air through the top mounted intercooler it is channeled through the grill. It is really not a bad design unless you are heavy into the 1/4 mile.

not bad but is amazing how restrictive it is, along with the air intake. im worried about the heat the ic has and the paint on the hood. saw a used 07 speed last weekend and the paint seemed dull in the middle of the hood. dunno but working on the heat is one of the first things im going to attack.

TMIC have some advantages especialy when building the car you can drop the body right on to the subframe without having to rout tubes which is one of the reasons mazda dose it, same engine 3 diffrent applications more parts sharing. our tmic is going to get more air the way it is compared to if we had a big hood scope like the subbies beacuse ours is in a higher presure area. ive read somewhare the size of the opening for an intercooler only needs to be 1/10 the size of the intercooler to be efictive. ill see if i can dig up the article. FMIC have advantages they also have disadvantages the same as TMIC.
