Nissan is currently developing a new compact sports coupe that will effectively compete with the upcoming and yet-to-be named sports car Subaru and Toyota are developing and, thanks to a leaked image from Nissan GT 2012 meeting, we have our first glimpse at what the car will look like. Word is Nissan's car has long been in development, and the automaker plans to release the car before either Subaru or Toyota, or sometime in 2010.

The 'mini-Z,' which could be called Silvia, will be based on a shortened version of the 350Z's Front-Midship architecture, with a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated inline-four as one possible engine choice. Other engines under consideration, according to Japan's Best Car magazine, include a 1.6 or 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. The smaller engines, which Nissan is rumored to be developing, would feature direct-injection and perhaps even a Variable Compression Ratio system. Output could be as high as 222 horsepower.

The magazine also revealed the new car's key dimensions, including a 171.3-inch length, 69-inch width and a wheelbase of 100.4 inches, about 3.9 inches shorter than the 350Z.

Judging from the image, the new coupe will have dramatic body lines with wide rear fender flares. The car's roofline will taper off in true coupe fashion, with what appears to be a small, quarter window — which appears to be aft of a thin C-ish pillar — and an up-swept beltline.

At this point, the car is expected to cost an equivalent of less than $24,000.

Yes, both the S13 and S14 were 240sxs here in the states. In the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) they were badged as 200Ssx or 180sx. The JDM Silva did not use the KA24de like the US market 240sxs.The B14 was the only Sentra to use the 200sx nameplate and was sold from 96-99. Which was the last time Nissan used 200SX in the US. S12 does not equal Sentra.

man... you people are all getting s*** wrong!

yes, the 200SX was what the S12 Silvia was called here in the US... the 200SX name was on all the S13 and S14 cars sold in australia and europe while it was the 240SX here

the Silvia name was JDM only for the S13 and S14 (and obviously the S15 as it was JDM only)... the 180SX was for the R(P)S13 fastback in japan only... the S12 was also sold under the Silvia name in Europe from what I heard

Bro, I did not say it was not called a 200sx anywhere else. I said the last Nissan to use the 200sx nameplate in the US was the B14 Sentra coupe.

there wasn't a 200SX in japan! it's the silvia!

you were wrong, so before telling me I couldn't read, you need to read what you said first!

^^ Nice, just that grille, I thought the Murano was enough :(, it will take time to grow on me...

What is up with this new design trend to have the grill connecting both headlights... looks awful, all these butterface cars coming out... ewww gross

looks good...still not a huge fan of the new nissan grille (and the g**d*** fender vents), but i can live w/ it if the mechanicals are right.
