2008 Fastest cars under 25k

i looked up resale value on KBB.com they dont have the resale value of the new SS(they just hit showrooms last week) so i looked up a non turbo SS and a mazda3(not mazdaspeed3)grand touring hatchback and the resale on the mazda is quite a bit better.

i just purchased my MS3 and the Cobalt SS was my other choice. ive heard nothing but crap from SS owners about resale value. one guy on the forum said dealershps wont lease a Cobalt because they hold no value. you can check out www.cobaltss.net if youd like.

I would be willing to bet the real reason for not leasing a cobalt has to do with profit margin, and very little of resale value. The cobalt already is the bargain basement car (besides aveo) so there just isn't enough profit in the leasing given the small return on the investment of time, paperwork, administration etc...

Every dealer knows exactly how much a given car is worth, they all use the same pricing tools, and they are already broken down into regions for minor adjustment. The only question mark right now is what will happen to all the SUV inventory they can't even give away due to the fuel prices racing out of control. The single largest factor driving new vehicle sales right now is the "downsizing" phenomenon. This is just starting to gain real steam. Once it becomes a full fledged stampede watch how fast fuel prices come down, but not all the way to where they were.

So how long have you had your speed3?
How do you like driving it day to day?
Ever track it?

I don't have a MS3. I thought that was obvious. I've just driven, worked on, tuned, and wheeled hopped around in them. I'm not bashing the car, so don't take it the wrong way. I'm just not a fan of any FF really. My Protege was a road-course slut for years, and I still do open days with it.

this is off www.cobaltss.net
the post was about a kid who just brought home an 08 cobalt ss and it wouldnt start the next day, had to be towed into the chevy dealership

I think the SS/TC and SS/SC are awesome cars. I love mine. I just can't believe that just because our cars are domestic that they will automatically be cursed with bad resale value. Then my fiance buys an 04 GTI and I sit in it and i'm like WTF?! This car is beautifully engineered. Why can't we (america) do this? By no means am i saying import is better than domestic. I like my torque. I'd just like to be able to pay 23,000 for a car and 2 years later have it be worth a little more than 15. I see 06 Si's still selling for 20.

Yeah those new Civic Si's have awesome re-sale value. That's what I traded in my MS3 for and they gave me 20k for it with 6k miles on it.

A lot of the stories on forums have to be taken with a grain of salt somewhat. When there is a major failure, you have no idea the real story of what happened, along with the care, useage and maintenance of the car in question. Cars are mechanical, and if beaten on sufficiently, you can make anything fail. many times in spectacular fashion.

when the speed 3 came out, remember all the motor mount issues, bad flashes, cel coming on repeatedly? It wasn't that long ago. Stuff like that happens to many models when they first hit the market. One of the benefits of being among the first to own something :)

Also the main reason I waited for my speed3 until the bugs got worked out. 2008.5 FTW....

I see there's a lot of FANS of Mazda in here!

I've done more with Mazda's than you can imagine. Hell I'm on my 5th. I'm a Mazda fan for life, but just because I don't like an apple on the tree, doesn't mean I want to cut the whole thing down.

Have you ever checked out the reliability ratings of Mercedes? Horrible, just horrible in general. But not all German makes have bad reliability, BMW seems like a good bet for the most part. My next ride might be a Bimmer of some sort, probably that new 135i

Anyways, I just wanted to bring some enthusiasm to the table since there seems to be a lot of negative vibs / post about motors / trannies blowing, and that kind of thing.

if you think about it from the technician point of view, all cars suck. that means every manufacturer, every vehicle, every platform, etc. cuz guess what...if there ever was a perfect car with no problems, there wouldn't be technicians. that's the field im going into, starting tuesday actually

congrats on choosing a rewarding career path. Today's dealer structure and complex automotive systems are quite challenging. Kudos to those who can do it well. Be prepared for lots of training and constantly trying to keep up with new models and technologies. I can imagine the pressure placed upon you from management and warranty policies. It certainly rewards those who perform well.

the cobalt has launch control and no lift shifting. i bet that helps alot.

Don't be too sure about that. Winding Road just tested an SS HHR very similar drive train package with launch control. Don't know if it had flat foot shifting or not , but they were able to turn a faster 1/4 mile time with launch control turned off!

Still hats off to Chevy for having the balls to include launch control and flat foot shifting from the factory. Now if the cobalt body didn't look like ass I would consider one! Excellent proven drive train that responds well to mods. Just can't get past the looks.
