Let's hope she holds together

Well, I'm taking my P5 on one hell of a road trip - NOVA SCOTIA to ALBERTA! I'm crossing ino the states and hoping to catch a CUBS game - go cubs!

I'm leaving the 22nd and I'm hoping she'll be ok. I had it checked over and they said everything was ok. There is clunking in the end links but from what they said and what you guys here said that isn't really a safety issue.

Any advice? I'm getting the oil changed before I go. Anything else I should do?

Cheers!

Check tire pressures and since you had it checked out, the brake pads should be good. Check and make sure all of your fluids (windshield washer, brake, tranny, etc.) are good and topped off. Oh and one final thing: don't forget the gas lol. :)

Like above said, you may want to check the tire pressure in your spare aswell, if you have room in the car you could always put a cherry can in the trunk with $10 gas.
Are you planning to stay in Alberta? If so I highly recommend that you get some covers for your lights and fogs, they spread stones in the winter for traction and these stones eat up fog lights.

Yeah, it's a one way trip...and that is a great idea - I never thought of that.

Sounds like you speak from experience.

have fun at the cubs game...they are good times.!

THANKS! I tried to get tickets online and they only sell ONE AT A TIME!!! So my gf and I are going to show up and try and get some there (legally of course :P), and hope for the best. I'd never forgive myself for driving through Chicago and not getting seeing the cubbies!

Everytime I think of Chicago I think of the Griswalds and the family truckster!

Enjoy the drive.

If I was able to drive a 98 ford ranger from Vancouver to Boston, there's no doubt the P5 can do it.

Good luck staying awake through the Dakotas.

I would do some un-obvious things too before a large trip like that, such as checking the undercarriage for wear. Make repairs on anything iffy. Where things can kick you in the cahonnies are things like struts/suspention work. When your on the road, the rarer parts will bite you in the ass every time. Belts, brakes, tires are easier to come by.

Just a heads up, the roads/highways in Michigan and Illinois are crap! The highways are bumpy and wavy and Chicago roads are riddled with huge pot holes. Be careful and make sure your shocks/struts are in good working order.

Don't mean to be a downer, just a heads up. On the plus side, gas is cheaper in the US. Enjoy the drive!

Really? I heard the roads were better down through the states than through canada..my end links are clunking now so I am trying to take the easiest route for my suspension and I thought that was thrugh the states....hmmm - good heads up!

Why are u comin to Alberta? Moving here?

Yeah, got a sweet job with DND. However, its in Medicine Hat. I was there for the interview - seems pretty quiet, but as long as we can take weekend trips, it should be fine....Hopefully in a little while I can get transfeered back to Halifax - I'm gonna miss this place....

Eeeeeeeeeww... I hate the hat personally... Calgary isn't bad, but get used to weather changing literally from clear and sunny to a snowstorm in June within 2 hrs. No joke.

yeah the pot holes in chicago got really bad this winter they are mostly all patched back up but keep ur eyes open.

I did a 2200 mile drive about a month ago. ZERO problems! I checked tire pressure and all fluid levels before the trip. Did not need to top any fluids off at the end of the trip. Oh and I averaged 32.4mpg on the trip (drafting behind trucks totally works :) )

When you are coming to Chicago be ready for construction. It is the season of construction here so expect some delays and of course major traffic and morons on the roads. Plus the pot holes this year were really bad, it was just a horrible winter for the roads.
