Transmission Issues.. (with videos)

This started a couple days ago, I can shift fine, but this whining sound is awful in 3rd especially, although it does it in overdrive as well. Also having a stalling issue, I have to balance out my gas/clutch instead of being able to push the clutch in and let it be in 1st when I'm at a red light. When it stalls, it sometimes jerks in 1st because it doesn't completely stall, it catches itself and keeps on running. Here are the videos for the tranny issue.

Almost sounds like you have a straight cut tranny apart from the rattling at idle. That's weird...had any work done to it?

I noticed you have a cel...any reason? Maybe it's related to your stalling issue?

CEL is from not having an air intake temp sensor. The battery light has been on, but I've had the battery and alt checked and both were fine.. new clutch and flywheel in the tranny.. new engine just put in, so it's been on the road for about a week now. Also added the FMIC which may be part of the stalling.

Hmm.. that's a thought, same sound and everything? My car still shifts fine though, the noise does go away when I push in the clutch.

Slave cylinder? I had that issue with my GSR. Ended up being the slave cylinder.

What clutch kit and flywheel are you using? Did you measure to make sure they were similar distances to stock? It sounds like there is something wrong with your throw out bearing if you push in the clutch and the noise goes away. Universal throw out bearings that companies that ACT uses are different then stock.

It's a clutch made by the company that makes Zoom clutches (Precision), flywheel is a lighter one by the same company. The clutch actually says Exedy on it. That may be the issue then. Do I need to get a stock throw out bearing and that will possibly fix the issue? I compared the two, and they looked identical to me.

Defiantely not a Slave cylinder...Not even a remote chance.
Slave does nothing that would cause a noise if its rotational.

TO bearing is a possibilty..but wouldn't explain whining gears..also not likely there for that problem.(the gears) But it could be the source of the rattling at idle...ESPECIALLY if it goes away under pedal load.

CEL cannot be thrown by the tranny at all I dont believe on the MSP(or protege Manuals) for that matter.

Is this the same tranny that was in the car before your motor blew?
Did it have any problems before?

Yes, same tranny, never had any problems before. Got the engine put in and everything was fine until after a couple days of driving. I had been downshifting and letting the car brake itself down hills and coming up to red lights, not anything dramatic, and on the way home it just started that high-pitched whining noise that sounded like a saw. I tested it today, and it does go away when you push in the clutch. No changes in shifting though, but did notice yesterday that it would throw itself into neutral when it was in OD. Did that a couple times, but didn't know if it was from the vibration of my car or what.

If you do take the tranny apart again, compare the flywheels and see if there are any height differences in the steps.

Hmm....Until you said it popped out of gear...I would have heavily leaned on the TO bearing.
Noisy while idling and even noisier while moving...but it wouldnt cause it to pop out of gear.

Are you sure that part isn't your mind playing trick because there is an Audible problem?

Now that you mention it..I think my car was a bit noisier after my rear motor mount as well.
Not just vibrations..but noise in cabin.
But that still doesn't explain the popping unfortunately.

I kinda think it may have been the vibration with it popping into neutral. I drove it for four hours total today and it didn't pop out of OD.. I have the AWR front/rear mounts also, 90 dur.

No matter what..sounds like the tranny needs to come back out to check into this.
At a minimum I would put an OEM TO bearing in..or read over the Mans thread on iMazda and use the upgraded TO bearing..but you have to do a bit of modifying for it.

Sounds like a plan, thank you very much for your help. What occurs to make the throw out bearing do this? Is the car still drivable for a while or should it just be parked until I can get someone to fix it?

Its just a Cheap ass bearing...and as long as it holds together..which it probably will..You are not going to do much damage to anything.
But it sounds pretty bad...and if its bad enough..you could cause some irregular wear on the Pressure plate fingers..which could ruin the plate if left long enough.
I dont know..I would get it pulled down ASAP and just get it taken care of.
Parts are cheap..Its just the damn labor that sucks.
And definately check out your Clutch and FLywheel as mentioned too.
Your in there..you might as well double check everything for any signs of problems.

Yeah, I'm going to get the welded LSD put in there too while they're at it. Good time to get all that crap done.
