Official Exhaust Thread

so you wanted best performance, and got the cheap chinese one... ok.

Yea ur right about that I meant I want a good performance with equally good price and I found it on eBay for under 300$
Would be interested in a used system

okay... so my 4-2-1 header is leaking.... to be specific... it is leaking a lot from the flex-pipe... and to get a whole new flex pipe is about $150 from an exhaust shop around here....

i was wondering if i could just get an exhaust wrap to wrap around it to stop it from leaking so much.... btw i have some pretty stiff motor mounts that doesnt really shake the header at all.... so the purpose of my flex pip is useless.... i think..... so will an exhaust wrap decrease the leakage?

i recently asked this in another thread, but i really need answers quickly so i'm going to pose it here and hope everyone doesn't think i'm a pest. ;)

i have the entire exhaust system from i believe an 03.5 mazdaspeed protege. i have every pipe from the connection on the header, dual cat, and chrome muffler with the oval tip.

what EXACTLY, and please be detailed if you're experienced with this, will i need in order to install this exhaust system on my 03 pro5.

hangars, gaskets, ... need the list. tools needed would be an asset as well.

i have access to a hoist on tuesday afternoon so this is kind of time sensitive as i will need to source parts i'm sure.

i really appreciate anyone's help with this.

thanks in advance!

A couple of questions...

Is the current exhaust on your P5 in really bad (rusted) shape- will you be able to reuse the hardware?

Is this MSP exhaust new, or will it need new gaskets?

You're going to use the exhaust from the header jpipe back, correct? (an MSP header won't work on a P5)

Just so you know, a sedan exhaust will stick out far beyond the bumper...you'll have to have the tip cut and rewelded to make it look right. (there's a pic earlier in this thread)

You may need new gaskets (you definitely will need the header to midpipe gasket) and you may need new hardware if yours is too rusted out. Exhaust hangers can be reused, though a new set can be bought from Corksport for $40ish. You should probably have an impact wrench and definitely have a can of PB Blaster. Good luck!

For parts, look at the parts catalog stickied at the top of this thread, then PM Bagman1 for prices or questions, or you can just order the part #s at onlinemazdaparts.com.

as of now its just the stupid exhaust tip which i have yet to get the funds/effort together to get rid of. you can barely hear the car. it sounds nice its just not real exhaust. btw does anyone have a mazdaspeed axleback they'd like to sell me... for cheap...lol

i haven't taken a good look underneath, but i'd rather use new hardware. i am guessing you mean nuts/bolts, etc? i should probably obtain these from a dealership, i am assuming?

the system is used, but only has about 5000 clicks on it. i would rather use new gaskets everywhere they are needed. have a friend that works at CAPS who is looking into it for me. if i have to go to the dealership, should i be asking for gaskets for the msp exhaust, or are they universal fitment?

i'll go look for that picture now.

thanks for your help.

does it ever stick out. haha.

my muffler tip doesn't look like that, though - it's more of a sideways oval, not up and down.

Is anyone running 2.5'' cat back on non turbo proteges? if yes then is it too loud and if you had vid of it that would be great

IMO i think 2.5 is too big for these cars, well if its a turbo then it doesnt really matter since the turbo creates its own backpressure, but with these weak boxes id think youd lose too much backpressure, I think 2 1/4" would be good for this car, plus i figrue my old car was a 6 cyl 2.8L, and the magnaflow catback was 2 and a quater, and gave the best performance out of the other brands, so I would imagine for a 2.0 4 banger that doesnt have torque in the first place it would be too big. thats just me tho

LOL

That is all.

im running a 2.5 catback with a catless mid pipe
2.5" is not too big for these cars, sure u lose some torque but its not like we had an incredible amount to begin with
and no its not loud, once u remove the cat. u gain the most power and noise from the cat back

so basically, its reasonably quiet until the cat is removed

LOL

That is all.

????
and the racing beat system is 2.3" I think, which is in between so that may be the best bet, bigger isnt always better nor is all freeflow, you need some backpressure, and id leave the cat in, i live in ca and thats a big no no, plus they had a article in a mag about this a couple years back, its really pointless unless you got a big output engine, other than that youll probably gain very little to no hp.........btw justanothermp5 nice sound man

You still talking about backpressure? LOL

The goal is VELOCITY. Maximum exhaust velocity. So really, you want as little back pressure as you can get while still maintaining velocity. If you have a huge pipe and a small amount of gas (exhaust), you have low velocity. If you want a lesson on back pressure stuff a potato in your tailpipe and run a pencil through it to make a hole. It'll show you just how 'good' your engine will run with all the backpressure you seem to love lol.

That being said, for this engine, conventional wisdom says 2.25 is about the sweet spot. I haven't seen any data that says otherwise, so that's what I'll go with lol.

what you just said is exactly what I was tryna say lol, you need some backpressure for the exact reason, if you have no backpressure then your velocity is all ****** up same with if theres too much, I guess I didnt word it right....I do know what im saying believe it or not, stop picking on me (doughpoke (nailbyt)

:edit: and lol 2.25 is exactly what I said why did you cut that out >.<
