Another new addition!

Damn right! I just picked up a '92 with 103k miles for less than I paid for the laptop I'm typing this on.

(first)

only needs a little paint... :p

EDIT: you want to buy my viscous when I swap in my 'new-to-me' one? :p
when are you actually gonna start running STS2?

Don't hate because yours has all that extra paint weighing it down!

Yes. Yes, I would. Got a stock pipe connecting the header to the cat laying around by any chance? I found my exhaust leak.

I'll be running STS2 next year. I'm gonna finish out the season in CSP unless some sort of circumstance dictates otherwise. Also, my wife isn't likely to let me prep it at all any sooner than that.

BTW, way to jack yet another thread. :p

HEEEELLL YEYAH! But no, I don't have my stock header stuff anymore. I think kevin might. I KNOW Kurt will. It'll probably be easier to swap the entire thing, honestly, than replacing just the down pipe. There's no room to work up there.

And probably cost the same to get a replacement LOL

OR: get a full header from somewhere... miata.net classifieds, ebay, cragslist... you can get the OBX ones for relatively cheap. While not the best solution, it's better than nothing...

Probably cheaper to just have a couple of flanges welded to a straight pipe, because that's all it is. A new header is very low on my list of priorities for this car.

I'm moving this conversation to my thread, BTW.

What are you thinking about for suspension on it? Something along the lines of Muff's setup? Or like Kevin's?

Right now I'm probably going to go the budget route, just to get it up and running as soon as possible. I think Koni Yellows, Koni sleeves, and some 450/300 or 550/375# springs will do the trick for now. I figure that combo will probably run about $900. Add in wheels and tires, sway bar, and assorted maintenance and de-molestation costs, and that would probably be pushing it with Jenn.

AND successful! See: Muff's 2nd overall finish last year.

Not necessarily. Muff's car has been drastically upgraded this year, and thus far he's pacing to come in lower.

The moral of this story? The cheaper setup must have been more better!

...and Bridgestones are fast4r full tread!

Make sure you get the correct model of shocks for your Miata....

Yeah... the competition's a little different this year. Chris, Toby, Eric and Brett are not shoddy. If it was the same as last year, Brett and I would be cleaning up LOL. If it's any indication, I'm placing about 20-30 places higher give or take on average in PAX than I was last year. My driving's improved some, but the car improved a TON. IIRC, when Bill Bounds drove my car at the last event, he was just shy of what would have placed 1st in STS2, having never driven the car before.

That's my point. Last year's finish didn't have much to do with the setup. Most of the really fast guys were in Pro. This year, I can't figure out if everyone has decided that STS/STS2 is the cheapest place to play or the place to play with the big boys.

I'm still PAXing lower than I was at the end of last season. We've definitely got some setup issues to iron out.

So now my mind has wandered back to getting this thing fixed. Has anyone pulled this whole coolant outlet piece off before? I know it's going to be a PITA, but I'm wondering if it's going to be tougher than trying to get that out and get a new temp gauge sensor in with it still attached to the block.

Driving this thing around without a temp gauge makes me more than just a bit nervous.

That coolant "peice" is cast into the head. You're just gonna have to man up and remove that plug. If you want, swing by and we'll knock it out real quick.

Kevin has small hands, so he can do this stuff pretty easily :p

Damn. I thought so, but I saw a picture with an engine out and it looked like you could take it off. Might've been an NB, though.

I'll take you up on that. When do you have some free time?

BTW, I emailed the SCCA office about the Doublecross. Just waiting on a reply from them. I haven't talked to Steve yet, but I figure, worst case scenario, I throw the old R's on my Miata and give 'er Hell. Got any old springs sitting around to help that cause if it comes down to that? :p
