I am looking for an HID kit for my 2006 Mazda 6. The choices i have are:

  1. Prolumen 6000K - $293.02 (Shipped)
  2. McCulloch 6000K - $259.89 (Shipped)
  3. MTEC 6000K - $270.00 + $35 Shipping
  4. Apexcone 6000K - $129.95 + (Shipped)

The 6 uses an H1 bulb, correct? Also for the MTEC kit, it says that it is made for the Mazda 6. Is there any big difference between that kit and the rest that i listed? It does say that the bulbs are made in Japan though.

Here is also the links for all of the HID Kits:

McCulloch-https://www.amazon.com (commissions earned)

Apexcone-http://www.therpmstore.com/product_info.php?products_id=38{7}20{5}13{68}323{8}33

Out of all of these kits which one would you guys prefer?

I just got the MTEC 4500 kit, and it doesn't seem to be any more made for the car than the other good quality plug-and-play kits. However, I can't fully answer that until someone else answers my question in the projector thread :P

That apexcone kit looks pretty cool for the price, and since I keep hearing good things about the rpm store, I'd probably just get that. It has slim ballasts, and you need all the space you can in the engine bay. Well, at least my V6 does.

i cant speak for the proojector, but i can speak for apexcone, installed them in 4 different cars. 2 protege5's, 1 2006 civic and an 03 focus. great kit!

thanks for all of the information. Looks like ill be going with the Apexcone. Now does that kit come with everything i need? Also whats this projector thing you guys are talking about?

{please make a formal FS thread with proper pics-VRMS6}

As far as the projector thing, you might want to get some OEM HID projectors from another car like an acura tsx for about $100, and fit them into your mazda headlights. This will make the light much sharper and safer for oncoming traffic, since apparently the stock mazda 6 low-beam projectors weren't made for hid.

what are you talking about, proper forsale thread? as to projectors, the 6 already has projectors. I think thet can handle a set of hids. will it have the cutoff colors? prob not as nice as the tsx, but I really think he'll be fine with just putting hids in his stock projectors

do you guys know where i can get some good projectors from? i looked on ebay but i only saw txs projectors for D2S bulbs.

He's talking to me about the sale thread, which I don't see a big deal about because it was very relevant to this convo. I already have one, anyway.

Also, from what I hear the stock projectors will have some glare, unless the anti-glare mod is done. The cutoff will be pretty good with the hids, though, but I can't speak for beam spread and clarity.

hidplanet.com has some projectors that might work for you.

What do you guys think about the projectors from here?

I was looking at a pair of TSX projectors buy most of them cost more that the actual HID Kit!

Those seem to all be halogen projectors, and would be pointless to use. I saw tsx projectors for sale on ebay as low as $100 a pair. If that is more than the actual hid kit, then you should probably find a different kit :P You should be looking for something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-...025QQitemZ380019144797QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW although I don't know if those would fit or not.

thats the problem, finding one that fits the 6. Also most of the projectors that i see are for D2S Bulbs.

I would go for the cheaper one. Most places that say lifetime warranty for HIDs is just a sales pitch...the bulbs do not last a lifetime!

alright. so i got the Apexcone HIDs ordered. Now i just need to get some good projectors that will fit the 6. Still looking.....

What do you mean by projectors? Did you order the H1 or D2S bulb setup?

If ya ordered the H1, I would just try it, see what it looks like then make a decision. If not, maybe look into getting a set from a newer model 6, as they use the D2S bulbs (MS6 perhaps?)

Then if you are to look into a new projector setup, you need to find one with an H1 bulb as well, or, buy a second set for the new projectors

Well, if you got the H1 kit, then you should be fine with your stock projectors. I don't really know why would bother getting new ones. Seems like a waste of money.

^ agreed

Install your new H1 kit in your stock projectors and enjoy

Because that's the proper way to do it, so it doesn't cause glare to oncoming traffic and the beam pattern is better. That's the whole reason why there's a big market for these things. Although, to be fair, the stock halogen projectors seem to be OK for the most part on the 6.

The MS6 headlights are a good idea, but they are like $500 a pair on ebay, plus those hid projectors aren't the best.
