NEW 1st TIME DRIVER: PROETEGE 5

haha... am old enogh... yeah thanks for the help i will reconsider that protege... might just get a civic or something similar cvic del sol,,,prelude
(encourage....yikes, but then i remember being young....see ya on the honda forums...not!

Good luck trying to find a good del Sol. I had mine for just over a year and had to sink huge money into it. if something breaks (other then the engine.... those are everywhere) be prepared to pay hundreds - if not thousands of dollars. Just get a nice 92-95 civic hatch, or Si coupe. Cheap and reliable.

Jim Click is an overpriced dealership in Tucson. You would be better taking the hour and half drive to the next city of Phoenix. Biddulph Mazda and Berge Mazda are some good dealerships.

In Az don't buy a salvage titled car unless you plan on using it for a track car only. They are harder to insure and even harder to resell. A salvaged title is simply a car that was so bad off that the insurance company deemed it a piece of garbage. Destined for the junk yard to be parted out and crushed. Then somebody got it for a few hundred bucks from the insurance company and salvaged it.

With a salvaged title I wouldn't give more than $2,000.00.

reading what you wrote i assume your from PHX??...... big dealers are always expensive ...so all try all find an honost private seller

I agree with all of the posts above, I would stay far away from one with a salvage title unless you can get it for a real good deal like 3000 bucks or something.

I know people who have gone 1,000 miles to find the right car. Sometimes you gotta do it to get what you want at the right price.

I drove 3 hours to get mine. Thank you craigslist!
and seriously 626, run a spell check and grammar check. Damn. "So all try and all find an honest private seller".... That's "I'll try and I'll find and honest private seller." and although, not althogh. But spelling is one of my frustrations.
have fun with a honda(loser)
Public school is failing us more and more...

I drove 2hrs to look at a P5 that was repaired on the driver side and they did a crappy job on the repair. So for $6500 with 65,000 miles I passed on it. That car looks just like mine 89,000 miles $5500 no recondition title but it did need about $500 worth of work. I also had to drive 3 hrs to get it. Recondition title cuts the valve of the car by almost half and banks won't touch it. Be patient after I bought mine I found a better deal on a blue one with leather and chrome wheels for $6000.

Here is a pic of my car:

to be honost i said i might get a honda just to piss some members off ahahhaahah cuz some were jerks to me.....But i want P5 so bad but its very rare finding 1 for sale around here :(

Although as a rule I wouldn't buy a salvage title, I think it would be worth asking about the pictures of the accidented, pre-repair, car (these are in the insurance file and the seller you are dealing with likely has it if he bought it from the insurance). You may deem that it was not such a big accident after all or it may just confirm that it has a salvage title for a good reason.

As for the "tiptronic", I am a manual car driver and settled for the automatic with manual mode as I was really looking for specific options that were hard to come by all in one P5 (a/c - sunroof - leather). I was able to find ones with one, two but rarely all three. The automatic transmission is great - when you boot the car, it redlines and then if you want to horse around you can use the manual mode which works fairly well but doesnt always react the way you want it to. If it's fear of learning manual, I would find someone to teach and get a manual... if you want automatic, don't let anyone tell you it sucks or otherwise, that is absolutely your own choice. I love my P5 in spite of the automatic and really can't complain about the way it drives and performs despite having driven manuals since I got my license 19 years ago... I miss it at times but love my car so it was worth it. Next car will be a 6 speed :p
