Mazdaspeed6 Clutch Fix TSB

I went to my dealership to get the TSB done, and they were going to do it, until they found that my VIN was just past the list of affected VIN's, yet my car is an 06?
How is it possible for some 07's to be on the list, yet my 06 is past the range?

What is your vin? Type A covers 100001-106359. Type B picks up right after that, 106360-107613. They must have read your number wrong.

Well I guess I'm lucky, I took my Speed6 (my wifes actually) into the dealership and told them about the rough and high clutch take up and frequent stalls, I didn't mention the tsb. The service manager looked up my car, told me about the tsb and ordered the parts. No fuss, no arguing, he just did what was right. He will call me when the parts are in and to boot hes working on my MS CAI problem. When this is over I will write a glowing report about this dealership.

I'm calling Beach Mazda of Costa Mesa, tomorrow.
I sold Mazda's for awhile, a customer fried the clutch on the demo car on a test drive.
$1500.00 is what our shop charged warranty/Mazda.
Everything directly behind the engine has to come down.

Then your car, "technically" doesn't need it

there's a reason that mazda listed a VIN range.... whoever told you about any 2007 models qualifying for it was wrong. No 2007 model is in the VIN range, therefore Mazda would not warranty the parts.... and the 3 different 2007 models I've driven have the clutch exactly how my car feels now (after getting the TYPE A performed).


Sorry bro but technically, according to Mazda HQ, there's nothing wrong with your car regarding the clutch.

All right. My parts got ordered and about three days later I got a call asking when I could bring it in for the work to be performed. Well, as luck would have it, I had a crazy week ahead of me and couldn't get to the shop until Friday. Dropped it off Friday am; they gave me an 07 M6 Wagon w/V6 for a loaner. Its not my MS6 but its a pretty nice car and I love the dark cherry paint. Hopefully I'll hear something Monday. That will still give me time to put my AEM CAI on it before the OAC Thunder Run here in Louisville on Saturday

I think the misunderstanding (I know this is what I thought) comes from the perception that Mazda made only 5000 MS6 in 2006 and that they are sequentially numbered from 0001 to 5000. Apparently that isn't the case, since 7xxx is, apparently, a 2006 build.

So one of two things: A) Mazda built more than 5000 MS6 as 2006 models, or B) the ones they built aren't sequentially numbered. Anyone know the true number built?

Hmmm.... the true number built is hard to find, I think someone posted it over on mazda6 club's forum once.... I can't really recall.

Good to know you got your parts ordered.... I haven't heard of any 2007 MS6s getting the TSB done though.....

Clutch

sweetness, so we get a brand new clutch out of it.... But I'm concerned on the exact type of changes that will take place. If they simply "soften" the clutch engagement, it just means more lag in power transfer and the potential of the clutch to wear out faster... ie it would only be able to support 300hp instead of say 350hp...

They're looking at my MSP regarding the clutch TSB.
They were not aware of the TSB either.
I won't settle for he softening approach. Not good and not nice.

If I had to guess, I'd say they sold more then 5000 06 models. Those numbers they mention in beginning kind of lure people into thinking they should get one before they are gone. My 04 STI when it came out, was said to only make 3000. They ended up with 7200 for 04. TOugh to say, but I'd like to get an an exact number. Very possible they sold several thousand more then the initial 5000 claimed.

Had to order some parts...
Loaner is Mazda3 1.8 Sport...
Now I need to find a rear bumber assembly and install it, hit for the third time in 18 months in a parking lot...

LOL, that's the same exact rental car I had when they did my clutch install.... nuts!

Sorry to hear about you getting rear ended.... that sucks.

Went to pick up my car following the clutch TSB and the guy says "oh, we were just about to call you." Seems my steering rack went out during the test drive, so they are ordering a new one and it will be installed tomorrow. I'm a little upset that I paid for an alignment a month ago. I personally am not buying the idea that the rack just went out (course, I think Humpty Dumpty was pushed; I'm just sayin'). I don't think they've had a lot of experience with this TSB and I figure they probably damaged it during tear down or rebuild. Either way, more new parts!

Yeah the good news is that they are replacing it for you, because they know they ****** up.....

"oh your steering rack when out during the test drive" WTF? I wonder how many of their customers believe the baloney they say

OK, got it back about 6 yesterday and immediately had to drive down to E'town KY (about 40 miles, mostly highway) but even with that little bit of shifting it is like an entirely different car. Drove it in to work today and it feels like every other manual tranny I have ever driven. Definitely worth the hassle I went through to get the dealer to acknowledge the problem.

it would be under the vehicles warranty history.... but i'm 100% it wasn't done. a TSB is not a recall... just a bulletin, so Mazda can say yes or no to the fix.

Has anyone paid to have the fix done if the dealer won't cover it? I'm just wondering because I may be importing a Speed6 (into Canada from US) and if it hasn't been done I'm assuming I won't be able to get a Mazda Canada dealer to do it on a car that I didn't buy from them, and isn't a CDN car.

Any ideas on price range for a Type A or Type B? Our mechanic happens to live 2 doors down from my parents and is a good friend, so if it doesn't have to be done at a dealer I'm sure I could get a break on the labour.
