whats up guys? jus a quick questions on fmic. i jus bout my ms3 and am looking to prolong the life of my turbo and gain sum hp aswell. im planning to do a tbe in the near future but i want to first start of with a fmic. i know the the stock intercoolers get heat soaked and dont do much good for the stock turbo. does anyone have any suggestions on a quality fmic. and if you have installed one urself what type of gains have u got out of it. also, is it nessessary to reprogram the ecm or is that only an option???

you dont need to go FMIC a good TMIC will do well for less $$. heat soak is seriously over exaggerated. i still have the stock TMIC (for now) and i can tell you that is not as bad as people think. i can drive in normal stop/go city traffic (with my data logger on) and while i sit at a typical red light (about 1 min) the temp will rise only about 5-8 degrees. then when i start rolling again it will lose that heat in about 10 seconds. the stock intercooler actually cools VERY well. what it doesnt do well is flow. sure a FMIC wont gain those few extra degrees while at a stop, but is that worth twice the $$$ ? not to me. but if it is FMIC you "need" i hear the corksport one is nice.

thanx for the info.. i hear so many things about the stock tmic not being a good intercooler... its nice to know cold hard facts about it.. what do u plan on doing with an intercooler setup?

i work closely with TRZ. they are developing a TMIC that incorporates a new cold pipe into the design. the other TMIC's out there do not do that.
it has been in the works for a long time now. TRZ has had the most bussiness ever lately, so the project keeps getting bumpped back so they can keep up with their current orders. it should be ready reasonably soon. the original target date was late jan.08 so as you can see it is running behind. once the prototyping is done it wont be an issue. TRZ is very good about getting their orders filled. they pride themselves with great customer service, even when it means other things have to wait.

Tru-- you know I respect you, but have to disagree. My experience w/ the stock TMIC is that is heatsoaks like crazy--

I did 1 run on the dyno and my TMIC was hot to the touch, definitely heatsoaked. Now weather or not it would be the same way on the street I don't know. I have personally never understood why you would upgrade to another bigger TMIC, even if it resists getting heatsoaked, it will still be more prone than a FMIC.

Now a TMIC and Meth injection thats another story...

to the OP, people have had great results with the TurboXS FMIC-- a reasonable price and a very large core for the money.

any detail on the trz top mount. I wouldn't go front mount myself, too expensive and too much of PIA to install. I rarely notice heat soak with the stock ic but it would be nice to get a well made top mount

when they will release it??

the goal on the TRZ TMIC is .....soon ! it is partially done i have seen some "in process" pics. the tricky part is designing the cold pipe. the stock pipe is garbage. all those with ETS or auto exe TMIC's still have the stock cold pipe "where the BPV mounts". that thing narrows down to like a 1" opening at one point ! whay have a good free flowing IC with that on the outlet of it ?!
elbartorex....... no offense taken.
the dyno/street are nowhere near the same. i dont care what type of fan they have or how the mount it/aim it at the car, it will never produce the speed/volume of air flow that real driving will. that is why i say dont believe any of the dynos you find out there for IC upgrades...they will never tell the whole story. the gains you will see from a dyno is from the increased flow the new IC will provide. it wont tell you a damn thing about how well it cools.
on the street i'm telling you the car does not heat soak. it takes SEVERAL minutes befor the temp will rise enough to make any difference what so ever.
the one time the car did heatsoak on me was at the track. i was sitting in the staging lanes with the car running for about 15min. outside temp was like 60 and my boost temp got up too 160 ! i noticed that all i had to do was keep the hood open and it stopped though ! even with the car running the temps woul not go over 125 with the hood open. now i just keep the hood open and push the car through the stagin lanes until i am just about to the front of the line. by the time i stat the car the temps are nice and cool. i would not spend all the extra $$$ for a fmic when it under typical street driving it wil not cool any better than a good TMIC. so no exrta cooling effect + added lag = not for me ! i dont care what anyone says there will be more lag with a FMIC. there is a more volume of tubing to pressurize and a larger core as well. it will have more lag. some say the dont notice any extra lag, but it is there, trust me.
