What have you done to your MSP today?

w00t! I checked oil today for the first time in two weeks and not one bit lower than "F". This is great - I've definitely pushed the car harder than usual lately with tuning and the car show yesterday and to know that next to no oil was burned is fantastic! I guess those Krank Vents really did something...

were u burning oil before putting the vent on?

Yeah I was definitely going through some oil before. At the worst point I was probably adding almost 2 qts over the period of one oil change. You could also 'smell' the oil in the exhaust fumes (catless). Initially I only put one of these on the car and while some consumption went down (at most about 1 qt per change) it didn't really help too much. Back in December I put on the other one and it made an immediate difference in the exhaust smell (why am I smelling my exhaust, you ask?). It's weird though because I still burned a little oil then too but it seems that since I replaced the oil then and changed it over two weeks ago the consumption has been negligible. Nothing else has really changed so I would have to say these things worked.

Did you get the mini or large vents?

Did you get the mini or large vents?
Definitely the small ones. The large sizes are huge! I just followed the directions on their website and everything was great. Supposedly these keep the crank case in complete vacuum. Because of these I'm running the stock PCV but I'm certain it will never see boost because of the large heavy duty check valve (Krank Vent) in front of it. The other valve goes on the breather line (I have a filter) and that one prevents air from being sucked into the crank case through the breather line.

u finally got them huh? Mine still burns oil while downshifting with the Krank Vents and 2 catch cans. Must be turbo seals or valve seals....(notcool)

Yeah I've had them since early October but it wasn't until December that I installed the second one as well. I mean I still burn some but it's been about 3 weeks since my change and well over 1000 miles (many of those in boost) and my oil level was still right at the "F" mark. I downshift all the time too. I know I get a little oil blowing by still because it could be seen in the intake tracks in the IM when I removed it to install another 626 IM. The catch can grabs some too but it leaks so I can never really figure out how much it really catches. I'm just happy I'm not going through quart after quart.

good deal..glad they're workin out for ya!

could be the msp heat sheld, they are notorious for making noise. the bolts come loose. replace them all with new ones and see if it goes away.

Thanks for the tip, I took the bolts off and the heatshield, i didnt have a chance to get new bolts today so I just put the heatshield back on with the old bolts, i tightened them down and the noise is gone, i know since we are running 4 cylinders small noises wont go away completely but at least that knocking noise is gone. thanks again, cant believe it was that simple.

ran the s*** out of mine today because I was being chased by a black Harley Davidson F-150 truck i have no idea why. It was scary and fun at the same time but thank God for some quickness and great handling.

I just don't understand the comment about small noises that won't go away. Don't all engines have small noises? Or were you referring to the fact that with larger engines you have more noise at idle and therefore don't hear the small noises?

i was saying a little of both, that all engines make small noises but larger engines have more noise from power that you dont hear the smaller noises. either way my car sounds a hell of a lot better than before i tightened the bolts, it sounded like someone had thrown small rocks in there and they were being knocked around.

Oh I know the sounds. Originally my heat shielt was powdercoated but it started to flake off so I took it off and removed the coating with a wire brush drill bit. When I put it back on I forgot to torque down all the bolts (got distracted by something else) and when I started this car there was this metal rattling sound. I thought my engine was knocking and turned the car off immediately and started freaking out. Fortunately after about 10 minutes when I put my hand on the shield to support myself (looking at something else) it moved and I figured out the problem. So annoying.

Yeah I'm definitely going to get a set eventually if needed. I was thinking about getting the small ones I just wanted to make sure since you will be running big numbers like myself.
