spun bearing 2xxx miles

ATX Acura's are awful. The TL's especially. If I remember correctly they had some sort of massive recall on the ATX's.

no recall but they extended the warranty to 100,000 miles on the trannys since they knew they would go by then and then the new one would have the same warranty. they fixed the problem for the most part with the new generation TL's.

Update: Mazda sent my dealer the regular 2.3, not the mzr turbo LOL. He is getting the whole engine, not just the shortblock. The car spun a bearing causing the piston to go wacko, which in turn hit and bent a valve. Lots of scoring on cylinder wall apparently.
mazda does not just send something that big by mistake... sending wrong s*** does happen don't get me wrong, but I really think this is the dealer's fault and not mazda's.... you can blame the dumbass parts guys in their parts department for ordering the wrong motor... if they used the VIN, they would've got it right the first time!

^agree with you,, the manager told me that mazda sent him a tsb that the cam pulley get stuck and that can cause the valves to hit the pistons so it is not recomended to put syntetic oil in this engines too
what TSB? tell me what the TSB number is... I've yet to see it and I do look at american and canadian TSBs every week

why is it not recommended not to use synth oil on this engine?
Complete BS. A TSB like this would have spread like wildfire through the community. We have members who are Mazda mechanics and friends of Mazda mechanics who would not keep this a secret. If it's a real TSB, he can show you a copy. As far as I know Mazda doesn't recommend synth b/c it doesn't work well in rotary engines, causing smoking or some such. Why Mazda's piston engines would be the only modern engines that don't work much better with synth is a complete mystery to me.

I have never saw any official documents stating synthetic oils a big no no in mazda engines EXCEPT for rotarys.... just like I've never seen any official documents about the oil filter conversion being a no no either... all I've seen are people flapping their asscheeks about these "problems"

Update 2: Mazda cannot find a 2.3 MZR motor for my poor old dad! They are on backorder. . . ?
these motors are expensive and still being new, they're not readily available

if your dealer's parts department knows what they are doing, then they should be 1) placing the motor on an overnight "CSO" order, and 2) upgrading the CSO order status to a hotline order in order to get the motor on the next air freight shipment

oh, don't worry, there will be an engine available once you hit that 30day mark of the lemon law and they have to hand you a new car! (rlaugh)

actually lemon law doesn't work like that. if the part isn't available there is nothing anyone can do. But I bet if I called our guy at Mazda I could have an engine here in 2 days no problem atleast that is how the last 5 we ordered went. Oh and the Mazdaspeed cars have their own menus on the mazda parts program so ordering the wrong one is pretty damn hard to do but it does happen. Honestly it is the techs responsibility to make sure the correct parts are ordered. And they are expensive to the customer to the right people they are cheap ;)

how do you expect that to be the tech's responsibility when he goes up to the parts counter and asks for an engine? the parts dude looks up the engine and orders it... it is the parts guy's responsibility from there which correct engine gets ordered or not... now if the tech asks for something under the wrong terminology and the parts guy orders exactly what he asks for but it's not really what he wants, then it is the tech's fault

the ms3 does NOT have a separate catalog... it is together with the rest of the 3s.... it will say under the catalog "w/turbo" under the descriptions... ONLY the ms6 has its own separate catalog because being a japan built car, it is very different than the US built 6s parts wise, not to mention the numerous technical differences between the 4WD car and the FWD ones

yes, that's right, this is my very first post,, why??,, I have the very same problem as described in the first post,, my speed3 blew the engine two weeks ago,, why??,, that's the question everybody keep asking me,, my speed has 1,987 miles in the odo and is bone stock too, date of purchase?? 21 of dec.. 2007, the manager of the shop ask me if the engine took a little drink of water while I was running , and I tell him not,, because that's the only way the engine could bend two rods the #1 and #4,, I was running at 60mph when I hit the brakes a little to reduce the speed because I saw a bump in the highway, then just push a little the gas when this sound came to my ears, boom pssst after that a little knock coming from the engine ,, for me the noise looks like a lifter or tappet what ever you name it, click , click, click, and a big vibration on the pedal clutch with just showing my foot to the pedal,, well to make the story short,, and for your info,, the dealer shop order me a new engine,, the manager told me that the new engine have a new part number ,, when this happen,, the oem part had been redisigned or the manufacturer have change,, lets hope is a redisigned engine
the engine may have been superceded to a new part number, but more than likely what he was trying to tell you was that your new engine has a new engine number as part numbers are irrelevant information to customers

ouch! that really sux...=/ so technically speaking, your car could die and you could be waiting for like 2 months to get it back? =/

I find it funny that you blame Mazda for an incompetent dealer

I just can't understand why Mazda and its dealers have to be such assholes when it comes to warranty, specially in a stock car. I believe its in their best interest to take care of their customers in order to do more services and sell more cars in the future.

Just becasue the dealer doesn't know what they're doing doesn't mean it's Mazdas fault. The quality of mechanics and parts guys varies across dealerships. Some dealerships just cheap out on good customer service, while others, like my dealership, have a top-shelf staff who rarely make mistakes.

As far as Mazda being difficult about hte warranty, remember it goes both ways. There are people on this forum who have no problem improperly modding their car, blowing it up, reinstalling stock parts, AND claiming warranty work.

Ultimately it's those few bad apples that ruin it for the rest of us. This goes for Mazda as well as other manufacturers

So please don't over generalize and say Mazda is trying to stick it to you. In your case it may have just been a stupid tech that didn't know what he was talking about, not Mazda specifically.

Subaru is a perfect example of this. Now people with legitimate concerns (usually regarding the drivetrain) are having a hard time getting warranty work done on their stock cars. Abuse is usually cited as the reason for denial.

Anyone browsing their warranty denial section and the horror stories posted would conclude Subaru is just a bunch of weasels. But looking at it from the other end, it's not hard to see why it has gotten the way it has. No one wants to take responsibility for their actions.

And everyone on the forums give me crap for not modding. I want to keep my warranty and I don't want to switch parts back to stock.
