P5 NA Build - Target 175whp

I wish i could tell you guys im making an hour long documetry of the whole build but the shop is open the exact same hours I work so its kind of hard to get over there and get vid/pics...
 
got any plans for improving the oiling of the engine? I'd recommend going to an aftermarket (be the AWR, or something a local fabricator can knock up of you) oil pan, and *possibly* investigate using an external oil pump... especially if you decide to go beyond 7k rpm.... or do any cornering under heavy load.

You don't want something as simple as the lubrication system destroying all your hard work and investment.
 
I already have the AWR deep sump oil pan installed and since i will be setting the soft and hard cuts on the MicroTech as you suggsted. I'll leave the oil pump alone for now but I'll put the external oil pump idea on the back burner though...
 
seems like your on the ball already, i actually was curious if you the oil pan already! I was considering one a couple months ago. can't wait to see pics and videos!
 
Yeah when i change the oil it kinda cool dumping in 7 quarts of oil rather than the pathetic 3.42736378 quarts the car takes stock.

Note - I have a dual remote oil filtration system installed as well which adds another 1.5 quarts or so.

I will also be installing a oil temp gauge in this whole process so it would be neat to compare if my oil temps are actually a bit lower than others with an oil temp gauge since i have double the oil volume...
 
While you are installing gauges, it would be worthwhile considering an oil pressure gauge too.
 
excessive oil temp doesn't usually lead to spun bearings. Lack of pressure does.

pressure is probably the most important gauge. Consider also a decent water temp gauge (or a microtech dash unit, which will display output from all the sensors the microtech is hooked up to).

Oil pressure gauge buys you a few extra seconds to shut down - where as the dummy oil pressure light usually only comes on when it is too late to save the motor.

Oil temp *is* important, as exceedingly hot oil will affect lubrication performance.

Also, a fuel pressure gauge should be considered for any highly strung motor. A sudden drop in fuel pressure can lead to excessive leaning, which in turn will melt pistons and cause some expensive damage.

so....to summerise...go and buy (in order of importance)

Oil Pressure Gauge, Water Temp Gauge (or microtech dash unit), fuel pressure gauge, oil temp gauge.
 
Can the MT dash unit read out fuel pressure too?

I'll probably get oil and fuel pressure gauges down the road. There is alot of stuff going on at once here so I think ill take it one step at a time.

LW do have a aftermarket oil or fuel gauge with your spirited driving habits? I dont plan on driving any harder than you currently do, probably less so. Does twillight have any of them? I guess i dont consider my engine as going to be that high strung.... More of a modded FSZE

MT dash can't read out fuel pressure. It shows you injector opening time (in milliseconds), but the injectors will open and shut regardless of if there is fuel behind it.

Twiggy runs oil press, fuel press and narrowband AFR - doesn't need water temp because his dash reads out the details.

I run the microtech dash - i really sould practice what i preach and get an oil press gauge - it is after all cheap insurance. I don't need fuel pressure because my microtech dash reads out wideband O2 - any sudden drops in AFR i can get off it right away.
 
problem with an oil pressure gauge is that you still have to LOOK at it in order for it to be useful. I have one and to be honest, I don't really look at it that much. Don't know why, just don't.

I'm looking at those prosport gauges which can be set up with an audible alarm if theres a drop in pressure...
 
i've never exactly understood the oil pressure gauge. i have one, but have not hooked up. is there a how to install the gauge? this summer i plan on reinstalling my water temp with a new ground, and installing the oil pressure gauge
 
I have/will be installing a wideband afr, vacuum, and oil temp gauge in a triple pod A-pillar shortly after i get the car back. (they will be going in with the microtech) I will keep fuel and oil press in mind though. Would look really sweet in one of Forcefeds custom bezels :)

Still they kind of seem like a nice thing to have but not absolutely necessary (says the guy who is putting in a vacuum and oil temp gauge)
 
my oil pressure gauge is just below the left (driver's side) center vent. I'll probably be getting an A-pillar pod soon and I'll move it up there.
 
Personally, i feel like i have enough cooling for the oil with the increased sump capacity and remote oil filter setup
 
question about the water temp gauge... It is my understanding that the MT needs its own water temp sensor, so if i want to install a water temp gauge i would need another water temp sensor? Could i use the stock sensor for one of those readings or would my car end up having three water temp sensors... (one stock, one for MT, one for aftermarket gauge)
