can you kill the turkey without a bov?

for the stock BPV i don't think it will because the stocker should already be opened fully when the TB plate is shut, Mazda just didn't design the BPV very well. I don't know about the BS RDV though. I think I remember something about isolating the BPV from the WGA on the brake booster line to help valve response....might help with the turkey a little.

mine is completly seperated from the WGA line.. both run lines to the mani and both have diffrent places to plug in.. but i still have turkey..

when the throttle closes and the bpv does it's job.. it opens up a hole on a big balloon of air... even if the hole is smaller than a BOV, you still open up a hole and let out pressure.. it,s like taking a REAL big balloon and blowing it up real big and then open the hole (which is rather small) what does it do? *pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffttttttt* and deflates..

why would a 1" hole in a BPV do this sound while a hole in a BOV wouldn't?

im not sticking to that theory..

if this was true, then removing the BPV from the hot pipe and leaving the hole open would do the same thing while letting to the gas (excluding the fact that i would be a leak and causing the car to run very rich that is)

there has to be something else

When I got my MSP, I put the Injen on, turkey out the ass.

Bought a TurboXS BOV, still turkey'ed out the ass.

Put on my FMIC, with the same BOV (but now on the coldpipe), no more turkey.

IMO, the outlet on the hotpipe is stupid. The combination of not enough flow out the stock nipple on the hotpipe, with the BOV/BPV being so close to the turbo doesn't give the car enough time to vent/recirc before the pressurized air slows the turbo down, giving you the turkey (surge). That is why the BOV/BPV should be on the coldpipe, the further from the turbo the better.

Someone with an extra set of pipes do a test. Put the same valve on the hotpipe, test, then on the coldpipe and test. Let us know what happens.

the position of the bpv may also play a role..but is the sound 100% positive it's compressor surge?

maybe it's where you put the BPV vac hose that changes the equation.


if you could put it on the same side as the hot pipe perhaps it would react diffrently.

the only diffrence between the hot pipe side and the cold pipe side is that theres an intercooler in between..

It was beat to death back in the day, many said its not surge. IMO, it is. What esle would cause that noise?

When I had the stock IC setup and the TurboXS BOV, I had both the stock vac routing, then a dedicated line ran off my vac manifold to the BOV, turkey both ways, although less with the vac manifold.

the only diffrence between the hot pipe side and the cold pipe side is that theres an intercooler in between..

And it's closer to the turbo.

2- what sound does it do ?? like a BOV "wooosh"??
3-where exactly did you hook it up? (pic please)

I don't think will sound like the BOV "whooosh" as that sound is made by the BOV...it will most likely give the BPV "pfssssh" just no gobble.
 
most defineatly...I can't wait till I have a little more money and get the SSQV to finish the dual setup...my cold pipe has been sitting in the closet since last august...or something....
 
Ok let me see if I get this - if I had hard pipes - on the cold pipe side with the Greddy BOV (GReddy Type RS Recirculation Adapter 1.25") from there going to my injen CAI modify the nipple to 1.25" then connect - Tap the vac part of the BOV into the breakboost line....

Is this right or am I off here????

I can say that it did not for me. It won't hurt to do it, and you should have your WG on a seperate line anyways, so do it and find out. Good luck!
 
Ok I'm not going to reply to every post here, but you guys need a little lesson, lol.

1) The stock BPV and the stock 5/8" fittings are what cause the surge.
2) The BoostSciences BPV kills the turkey if you have 1" fittings on the intake and IC pipe.
3) You can use the valves on either pipe.
4) I have run 3 different intercooler and intake combos on my car, and killed the turkey on all 3 of them.
5) Anyone who still says that it is not compressor surge is wrong. I just temporarily ran with NO valve at all, and it was turktastic. The exact same noise.
6) If anyone has any questions, PM the original turkey killer, aka me. I don't always catch these threads. :)


I am charging up my camera right now to show you guys what a single BoostSciences valve sounds like when it is PROPERLY setup (1" in/out fittings) while venting into a very THIN aluminum intake (just like the injen). No turkey whatsoever.
