May need help installing the WGA

I thought I had mentioned it at some point, probably thrown into one of those Fast and Furious script recitals at bowling.

The only thing I can say is I can easily (and often times) admit when I don't what the **** something is. So, I trust what some people say. Sorry for being a dumbass when it comes to a car I've owned for less than a year.

I would take everything your friend with the VW says with a grain of salt, his platform is just a tad different from ours, and though knowledge about turbos and supporting systems is universal, the components sometimes play more integral roles in different kinds of setups.

and people who swear they'll buy something they break tend to get REAL hard to track down. Seriously, this dude knows just enough to be real, real dangerous.

I would suggest just letting someone well versed in the MSP platform and setup mess with your stuff (Korey, Scott, Luke) as they have the knowledge of what works and doesnt, what will blow you s*** up, etc. They've all blown up their share of stuff, so they can help you avoid similar consequences, and they're all putting down respectable numbers (from what I hear). As I said before, someone unfamiliar with the purpose and function of the components in an MSP, or any other vehicle for that matter, can mess it up really quickly. It's kind of like taking your Ferrari to get worked on at the Ford dealership, or any other one, they may know how the various systems work, but I wouldn't trust them near anything on that car, you want quality, go to the source.

but why do that when you can disconnect the bypass and turn up the boost with an MBC and no boost gauge to monitor what's actually going on? (deadhorse

yeah he really really needs to put that BPV back on because not only is the car going to run like s*** it is hurting the bearings in the turbo

Ok, it wasn't the radiator, it looks like a very stock looking BOV. It's small, it runs from the intake tube to something.... maybe not the radiator. I believe it's the failsafe if the WGA doesn't work. In either case, we didn't connect them, we capped them off. In either case, it worked whatever it was. My buddy said he wouldn't do anything to my car that he thought would blow it up because he doesn't have the money to buy it. (He said if he ever blew it up, he'd pay for it.) So, he says connect the tube, I connect the tube.

Hey Mike, what were you saying about DIN? What does that stand for?

Dude, I am very sorry, but your friend knows very little about turbo cars if he is just willing to disconnect something that looks like a "stock BOV thingy" and think that it is gonna be alright. Compressor surge is gonna kill your turbo. Like Korey said, you just removed your By Pass Valve (BPV) and now your car has no way to relieve the boost pressure after the Throttle Body (TB) closes. I am not saying he actually is a moron, but maybe you shouldn't just let him play with your car too much, just becasue he has done something on his, doesn't mean he knows jack about it.

I heard if you take the passenger MM out then you get much better traction on inside turns. Gonna try it tonight!

I found that if you nuke your diff on the way home from school on a thursday, your car instantly gains 154whp

Just so we're clear, I have a boost gauge. It was hooked up but not installed. We ran it out of the hood, through the open window and he said if it started to go above 6psi he would yell to let off the throttle.

I understand that he may not know much about the MSP and I trust him when he said he would buy it. He isn't that hard to track down being that I know where he lives and he never locks his doors. My gf is practically his nanny. The only problem with letting you guys work on my car is that you live so freaking far away and if something goes wrong and it can't be fixed at that moment, I am s-c-r-e-w-e-d. My Colt doesn't run very well right now (or at all). I know, if it breaks there, I am in the same boat right? Well, no, because at least I am close to home and I don't have a second reliable car.

Honestly, sometimes I feel like an idiot asking you guys stuff. No offense to you guys but I am pretty clueless when it comes to the MSP's inner workings. What you all are basically saying is to tell him to piss off?

not at all, but if he really understands turbos, I don't think he would just disconnect what he did. They all nearly have the same design and he has to know that most need boost relief either through a BOV or a BPV. They all have intakes, actuators and exhausts. I have a book you can look at some time that would be very useful for you to learn off.

I think basically what they are saying is that his GTI is A LOT different than a stock MSP, the MSP's engine is a lot more fragile, and your friend just doesn't know how fragile they are, especially without supporting mods.

if you can take a picture of what you removed

You can not! Go out to the garage, remove all useless-looking thingies, and crank boost to 15 psi.
(poke)
What's this gherage you speak of? (scratch) I already removed the nut behind the wheel,t hat was a BIG improvement

dont worry, i feel the same way (boom02)

I can has look too?

i need to get my copy back too...best turbo book out but depending on your level of automotive knowledge certain things wont make sense. If you want to pick it up yourself its called "Maximum Boost" By Corky Bell (Corky Bell owns and operates a company called BEGI which make some of the best intercooler cores out)

BEGI (Bell Engineering) is known for more than just intercoolers. They're one of the big hitters for Miata turbo kits, along with Flyin Miata.
