if by any chance that comment was about me, i run my own business with my dad, we have a Interior Design Company along with a Hi End Custom Kitchen Cabinets, Bathroom Vanities company etc , eveything and anything that is Custom Wood Work.. and after work and on weekends i fix and build computers to get extra money for my needs. when i said i wasnt richie rich is because i just recently moved here to spain and had to take care of a home for my family, they have to be good before i spend the extra money i make for these hobbie of mine.

and im trying to buy all of these parts together now because when the car and my personal belongings gets inside the container and get shipped here, the shipping here to spain for some of them that are heavy and big dimensisions are going to be too much money, International UPS, Fedex or which ever of those companies are extremely expensive and sometime not worth it, i have a friend in germany that recently paid $ 600 just for shipping for his big brake kit for his Honda S2000 ,thats ridiculous

Well I have Said it before, if you are not a mechanic dont play to be one. I don't have that extensive knowledge to do lots of things to my car my self. if is related to installing competition car audio i know how to do it, if is about building and fixing computers i know how to do it. i dont expect to know how to do everything but, paying somebody that has the knowledge, the tools and the patience to do it right and at the first time dont make your project worst or less than the others peoples that does it themselves or a worst person, i really respect those that have done everything themselves to their cars, i know how it feels and the satisfaction you get, i feel it when i do car audio that sounds good and the way i like, and also building a computer and make it work the way i want and like.. if everybody out there knew how to do everything than the world will be crap. no jobs opportunities. no hi performance shops .. i mean Paying to get something done is not a crime, at least these is my point of view. i think what it matters is the final results, because we all have fun and love our cars and enjoy modding and driving them, some pay to get it done, some does it themselves..

I feel ya man...I wish I had the knowledge that most of the people on the board possess, but I don't. There would be ALOT of money saved on my part if I could work on my car without outside help, but I really don't have the time to do it. I try to learn as much as I can and do what I can with the time I can spare, but with big stuff (right now) I feel better if someone that's more knowledgeable does it instead of me. But when I learn to do it myself then I'll go that route.
 
Before this car all I've ever done was tinting windows installing stereo equip. and building speaker boxes, doing brakes, oil changes, plugs and an alternator once. Since being at my current job with an air conditioned bay every tool I could need and a machine shop at my disposal when I break something, I've taken on everything myself.

I'm a 36 yo born again mechanic! Not really but I've pulled apart my transmission to do my welded lsd and new shift fork. Swapped suspension 2 times. Installed my turbo kit with Haltech and J&S. Their is a how-to for everything and you just have to get dirty sometimes. The only thing I didn't do is build my motor I left that up to Speedcircuit. My biggest project is next weekend swapping in my new motor and rebuilding my tranny with the PAR gearset and all new internal components.

If I had the extra money laying around I would have it done but I really enjoy doing it myself even though I always run into something along the way, when it's done it feels great! Plus more money spent on mods vs. installs!

thats a major factor. just because a mechanic has the knowledge doesnt mean they will take the time and care that we (the people who work on their own car) want.

to the OP, sounds like you are talented in other fields of work. im sure you could learn how to work on your car. its not rocket science.

Well, u can fly over to the D.C. area and work on mine (I'll pay for airfare). I'll help when I can...thanks. There's a rack of stuff I need installed. Then u can quiz me on it.

Before this car, I never even changed the oil on a car. It's not that I couldn't, I just justified that my time was worth more than what it cost from a shop/dealer/jiffy lube/etc.

When my block popped in Dec and everyone wanted to charge upwards of $2000.00 labor just for the swap, i learned real quick about our cars. lol. After completely tearing down the old motor and assembling the built one these past two weeks, I can attest that engines are NOT rocket science. If you're good with computer assembly, trust me you can do engines. I've built computers for ten years (non-professionaly) and I've found this engine to be alot simpler. There were two really important things that I was lucky enough to have... all of the parts and all of the right tools. From there, look everything up in the shop manual and parts catalog.

The learning curve is easy enough. Take things from old and put it on the new. Getting in there and turning the bolts yourself is more valuable than any classroom lecture.

Now, let's just hope it turns over tomorrow when we drop it in the car...(nailbyt)

Well, right now I have to get the alternator replaced, but after that I need to get a fmic and an intake for the msp turbo kit (just paid for the msp ecu). I don't plan (for now) to boost past 9psi so for now I'm just going for 7 so I won't blow up anything. Me and some buddies from Va are putting it together in the next month or so when I get everything I need. Of course I'll be lookin' around for ideas on what clutch and flywheel to use, 'cuz I'm still on the original one (183k).

I'm still gathering ideas on how I want my trunk set-up so I can get to my spare...a false floor and a simple amp rack would be nice. I have all of the equipment for that already, so I just need to get it wired up the right way...Circuit City sux.

i actually got really lucky and someone down here was selling his built block. The entire crankshaft assembly was already in. I just had to put everything else on it.

simple question are you putting forged internals or stock ? and what budget do you have, i can give you ideas of stuff you can do to make your Pro more fun to drive. i not an expert but. i've done lots of stuff with different stages and i have some knowledge and ideas what to do.
