Painting Stock Wheels

When it says high heat paint it means it can withstand high amounts of heat without melting, bubbling, or cracking. It does not mean you have to dry it at a high heat, although it does make the drying process a bit faster. The index cards should work fine as long as they will stay in place. A few quick tips if you do get paint on your tires acitone will remove it(can be bought at any grocery store), a couple 2-4 layers of wheel clearcoat will help the paint last longer(also can be bought at an auto parts store), and also remember after you paint your rims to get them balanced for the weight of the paint will through the balance off.

oh ok thanks man, i have paint thinner and some of that acetone stuff at my house already so i guess i have to go buy a bottle of that gold see how it looks
if it looks bad, black here i come

Getting them powder coated or dipped is more expensive than it seems. Even if you get them done for under $250 you still have to pay someone to mount and remount the tires (about another $80). That's over $300 which could already net some decent aftermarket rims.

yea thats what i was sayin, its too expensive for me and right now im low on money
so spray painting them is the most logical option for me

Yah if you don't like the gold you can just count that as a basecoat. Make sure to primer the wheels first and wash them very very well before you do any painting. I washed mine three times and I was still getting dirt off of them the third time.

oh yea thats what im basically doin, got some scratches so im gonna sand with 220 and then with 400 and 800 just to be safe
then primer and some gloss black with a high heat gold for the lip
ITS GONNA LOOK SWEETTTT!!!

oh and hows the durabilty? scratches or chips anywhere and when did u paint them?

I used the duplicolor wheel paint and clearcoat. Been a year and no cracks or chips. Good luck to ya!

I think that will look awesome on the Midnight Blue. I want to get new rims for my car (also an '02 Midnight Blue), and I was thinking of the bronze route, but the gold looks pretty good too. I want pics when it's back on the car!

thanks man, ill be putting them on tomm morning and take a pic
right now i have the car sitting on the spare and dam does it look slammed on the ground lol

Pic #2 looks like you missed the sides of the spokes, but a few more coats will fix that. Im sure they will look great on your blue ride. Hurry up and post pics :)

oh yea thats prob cuz i used dark primer, i did like 4 coats so i dont think it will be visible in direct sunlight cuz the paint is pretty mettalic
oh and i cant post pics today, it 802 right now, raining, and my camera takes horrible night shots so look for it in the mornign tomm.
