Painted brake caliper opinions please......

Laser blue would look hot with yellow calipers......would have to be the "right" color yellow...but it would compliment the laser blue nicely...like the yellow on the MP3 logos and such...Black on the rotors tho...

Thanks for all the input everyone, and thanks maniac for the pics. The red seems to be a decent choice. The yellow idea is cool too, hadn't thought of that before, but that would look hot I'd imagine. So the spray caliper paint is no good?

Here's my opinion about painting calipers period:

You don't have a big-brake kit, and the p5 (obviously) is not in the consumer class to come with brakes worthy of being flashy.

So with this in mind... why would you try to make your brakes appear to be something they're not? Of course this opinion is coming from someone who believes that performance is much more important than appearance... but every time I see some kid with his stock calipers painted some flashy color, I roll my eyes and think rice. IMO you're just making yourself look foolish.

If you feel you must paint your calipers, please do it with a subtle color that will look clean, but won't draw attention to them-- such as silver or black. Save the flashy colors for when you can actually afford a big brake kit, and have built your engine to justify it.

I hear ya. And, very good and valid points. Didn't really think about it. I am painting mine because now that I've got new rims, my brakes look like rusty doo doo. So, I really am leaning towards black calipers and possibly black on the rotor as well.

Painting your calipers a subtle color (like silver or black) for the purpose of making them appear clean and to get rid of the nastiness they develop over time is an excellent reason.

A few words of advice though for everyone. Don't paint your rotors, and if you're going to paint your calipers, don't be like those riceboys who will paint anything while still on their car because they're either a.) lazy or b.) lacking the basic knowledge required to remove them and do it properly.

Remove your calipers and do it right.

+1 on the remove and do it right.

Paint your calipers whatever color you feel. I don't understand why only high performance parts can be brightly colored. That's just kinda odd. If it's a color that complements the vehicle, and it looks good, who cares.

Big brake kit: 1200$
Can of caliper paint: 8$
Doing whichever makes you happy: Priceless

Who cares what anybody thinks, its YOUR car, do what YOU want

I agree withe the two posts above. I didnt paint my calipers red so they look like a big brake kit. I did it because I think they look good. Imagine what you would think of me if I painted them a flashy color like 22v!

i got the calliper paint kit from pep boys i think , comes with a can and brush. I took the callipers off completely to make it easier. Make sure you clean them very well and you might want to put more than one coat bc my rears are starting to chip and look like crap now.

If those are vinyl mazda decals, I am amazed they were able to stick to the caliper. If they arent, what are they?

Yeah, they're vinyl. Got a set for my Mazda 3s. They come in a ton of colors, even carbon-fiber. Here's the site:

You get 6-each of the "MAZDA" logo, the (for lack of better description) "bird" symbol, and the number 3, 6, etc. Enough to do all four wheels and have a couple left over. Had mine on for over 9 months now and they still look like I just put them on.

Brembo gold on Laser Blue FTW!!!

(Except you can't find that paint anywhere, I think honda makes inca gold, thats the closest.)(thumb)

Anyone have any tips for products to use in the rust belt? I tried high temp powdercoat and it didn't last long.

That M5 does look hawt but our calipers don't have a place to do anything like that that you could see without a magnifying glass. That's how I wanted to do mine. Hell, I'd been OK with a spot big enuff for just for the emblem thing.
