Does anyone know what exhaust set-up (brand, tb, cb, etc.) would provide the most power but still be smog-legal in california, if any???(drive2)

worry about that in 5 years when you have to smog the vehicle. all cars built in 2004 and later are smog exempt for 5 years.

Well lets see here...:

CB = No power...
TB = power...

Any more questions...??? Just make sure you have atleast one cat and your good...

Any cat-back exhaust should be Smog Legal in CA. However it may or may not be legal to operate if it is too loud (as stated in section 27151 of the CA Vehicle Code).

Any exhaust that changes out a fully functional and working OEM Cat is, for all intents & purposes, illegal in CA under Section 27156 of the CA Vehicle Code unless it was approved by the California Air Resources Board (CARB).

Most TurboBack exhausts have CATs, however, because they are hi-flo units, they generally don't reach their full efficiency at low RPMs and slower speed because they don't get as hot as quickly. Because of this will generally fail a smog test because the test is done at 15mph & 25mph in CA.

However, in most cases you can "get away" with running the exhaust for the first 5 years, but then you're contributing to excess exhaust emissions and global warming which will cause tidal waves and floods and completely wipe out your car all together.

Give me a ******* break....

i think 2005, or 2006 cars weer changed to 6 years for first smog.

in cali from my understandign from my old smog tech (was a neighbor , and ran the number 7 station int he state, and was a ref). it is illegal to even change your cat before 80,000 miles. IF it goes out a certified tech has to change it. not even you. and if ti dies before 50,000 miles dealship has to change it period warranty or not. and i dont mean iof they viod it. if you have a 36,000 mile warranty. smog equiptment and saftey (like seat belts) are leggally warranty to 50,000 miles period.

but yeah in cali after the car dosent affect smog, i use ot go to smog with exaust all the time. its anythig befroe the cat. and noise.

I'd probably go with a catted DP and a RP, that way you still run at least one high flow cat, but can swap in the 2nd cat to go to smog test. Between a highflow in the DP and the factory cat, you should be ok, in theory. I doubt the smog tech will even know the dp is aftermarket

you can have a turboback, youll just have to swap it back to stock come smog time.

its what im gonna have to do.

Friend of mine told me that I would pass emissions as long as I had the precat. I was running a test pipe before and they say on turbos if there's a smaller cat (precat) then you shouldn't have a problem. A lot of places also just check for CELs. I know California is really anal against smog and s*** like that and even CPE said their turboback with the high flow cat may not pass emissions in Cali.

i just depends on whether or not they sniff test in your state. if they just read the OBD2 and everything checks out, they usually pass you.

here they sniff test, so even a high flow cat wont pass.
