Project Pay2Play: My Eunos Cosmo has arrived!

my only complaint with the defi gauges is that they have that starting sequence and so they aren't online immediately so I can get some readings during my cold start problems, but that's it.

So stop me if I'm wrong... but could not you put the key to 'on', let them do their dance, then start the car?

That's too easy Andrew, but I believe most cars cut off in between on and start which would just start the ceremony again.

it'll depend entirely where they are getting their power from.

There will be a trigger line on the ignition barrel which provides power when "on" is moved to "start". Then there is one for "on" which is only providing power when the ignition is physically in teh "on" position (move it to start, and it will stop providing power).

Interesting points guys...I'll have to keep that in mind when I finally get around to setting all this up...I'm still undecided as to the best way to "subtly" mount these gauges...

Now I'm thinking about going with this piece from RE-Amemiya if it's still available...swapping in a DEFI "ceremony" boost gauge and going with their Defi-Link Display for oil pressure & water temp...not sure yet where I would mount it yet...

Here is the RE-Amemiya pod...I would want one without that gauge in the pic...

Here is Defi's Link-Display...

Now I'm thinking about the possibility of mounting the link-display on my visor and hiding the wire via the headliner and inside pillar cover...but this unit might be too thick for that but it would be handy...that way I could keep my eye on the basics (speed, rpm etc) along with boost and have the ability to flip down & quickly check the additional telemetry when needed...:)

I wonder how many times I'm going to change my mind about this...lol :p

keep in mind, the Defi's don't come smaller than 60mm. I almost bought something I couldn't use because of that. You can try to get smaller gauge pods, but it'll take a little customizing to get them to fit. Also pay attention to the depth of the gauges, I had one minor issue involving that as well. Another one: the cord lengths! The cords you use to daisy chain only come in certain lengths, so make sure you get what you need for your install. I put my boost gauge on my steering column, since I deemed that the most important of boost, oil temp, oil pressure, and fuel pressure. They only come in Metric units (as of when I bought them) but I doubt that will be an issue for you. I see on their website they come in Imperial or Metric now...

Oh, and there's only so much subtlety about these, unfortunately. At night time they are well lit, but the illumination is adjustable. They are quite visible from outside even with tinted windows.

EDIT: I see now they have blue models on their website! I so wanted blue before! They only had white before. Damn! Double Damn! Combined with Imperial versions.... Ohhhh, I shouldn't have looked at that site...

Thanks for the heads up...I just e-mailed re-amemiya to check if they still have that steering column pod in stock and if I can fit a Defi 60mm gauge in there...Hopefully, I'll get a response soon!

I've got time to marinate about the gauges though...My priority now is to get an in-dash navi unit and it looks like I will need a custom mount because the Cosmo was fitted with a "native" radio setup from the factory...The original owner installed an aftermarket cd & md unit...and both units stick out a bit due to the design of the dash...If I'm going to spend a pretty penny on a nice navi/media unit...I want it to blend in with the dash as smoothly/naturally as possible...

I might checkout some audio shops but custom work like that costs and arm-a-leg in Japan :(

Ya know..I could always make you a one off pod. You just need to figure out where you really want them to go in what configuration and whether its feasible or not to put them there.
LMK if you are interested.

the interior looks sweet, a shame they didnt release any in america, or at least have very limited units shipped to here... and theres such thing as 26b motors??????????

used in the 787 Le Mans car. amazing machine, you tube Mazda 787. Also you can get some one offs for cars like Scoot and random builders.

Thanks for the offer...who knows...I might take you up on that as I like your work...At the moment though, I'm waiting on word if the RE one is still available...if it's not...I might try and get a few quotes from some hardcore audio/interior shops as it would be easier to discuss the plan with the actual car and in person...:) plus I need to find a place to fab a custom mount setup for the navi system I want...I'm hoping to find one place that can do both!

On a related note...I'll be setting up your AMM status later today! :D

As for the 4rotors...I couldn't get enough of the 767B I saw in person last spring...that beast sounded so badass running down the track...I really want to see the 787B make a few runs as well...IN PERSON!

Those quad + triple-rotor race engines can instantly convert anyone into a rotary fan...They sound unlike anything else!

Got some good news...I've got the next stage of upgrades in mind and I finally had some time to stop by my friendly local Mazda dealer to see if they can help me out...Luckily they can!

I like to deal with them because the guy I know there is really helpful and actually knows what the hell he is talking about...plus they can order from just about any Japanese aftermarket/tuner company AND they are familiar with my car now. (2thumbs)

As I've mentioned recently...I've been looking at getting a navi unit, steering column/boost gauge setup and additional genuine Mazda goodies for the Cosmo. The good news is they may be able to take care of it all and provide me with a "package" discount! :D

Here's what I've got on the roster:

* Factory chrome/polished? "Scuff plates" assembles (the model I have has plastic "EUNOS" scuff plates). Should complement the interior nicely, providing a more polished and luxury feel.

* Genuine factory "EUNOS" Keys...The one I have now is a copy

* 2 din in-dash Navigation unit (possibly from Alpine)...Might require a custom mounting setup.

* RE-Amemiya steering column gauge pod with Boost guage (guage possibly from DEFI)

We had a lengthy chat about the above upgrades...It's definitely going to require some more discussion and careful planning to make sure everything turns out just right.

Stay tuned :D

Came across a great deal on another Eunos Cosmo that I couldn't pass up!

...and it's BRAND NEW! ;)

I think we need an intervention. Wait... do they make proteges?

seriously, do they make proteges? I have looked extensively here in the states, and they just don't seem to be made anywhere.
