2003.5 Mazda Protege5
Was thinking about it this morning...Our Protege's are just so much damn fun to drive, almost similarly to the classic BMW 2002 (even similar suspension setups). Being a two year model only, could the Protege5 be considered a possible future classic?

The 2002 Touring below is not mine (I wish it was), but the P5 below is...

If you manage to keep it in perfect condition for 150 years any car will become a classic. But looking 15-30 years the road I don't see it happening. There is a better chance of a MP3 or MSP becoming a classic due to the relatively low production number and being one of the first mazdaspeed cars in the US. But I don't see that happening either.

Until you have one of the last few on the road I wouldn't say it is a classic, and even then it would be pushing it. They will be fondly remembered by those who owned one, but I wouldn't ever expect them to be considered a classic. Even the MSP and MP3 will probably never really be considered a classic, except maybe by a few die hard mazda fans.

anyone by chance know the production numbers of the P5.... I was just curious since they were only produced for 2 years.

Two years only, 02 and 03 with mid year refreshers in each that resulted in 02.5 and 03.5 models. They were produced before that elsewhere in the world, but not in North America.

have you seen a 99 or 2000 protege5? 2002-2003.5
I guess my answer would have to be.........Yes, but not in America. Only online. Only in service manuals. Ran accross them or came accross people talking about them online I guess would be why I tarded out in such a fashion. FOUR yrs in the world, TWO years in America......better?
