Check engine light on at only 2200 miles

I think it is time for Mazda to consider some sort of reparation for the increased number of warranty claims this purge valve problem is causing....

Something along the lines of increasing the warranty time and mileage limits.

IMHO.

Weelll, Mine's back on again. Guess I'll have to take it in after all. I hope I get a decent rental. Man I hate driving slush-o-matics.

What mileage are you at? How many times has this hapenned?

Just hit 4,000 miles. It has gone on about 3 times in the past two weeks and stayed on for at least a day or two. It went off this morning but I took it to the dealer anyway. Now I get to drive a Dodge Stratus until they figure it out. (screwy)

Ok, so I just got off the phone with the service dept. He said they replaced the gas cap and my car is all set. (dunno)

I guess I'm good to go then.

Did they give you a loaner or let you go home with the car?
they let me go with my car. the CEL was actually off for a day, but came right back on again....

hopefully...doubt it though.

Me too...hence the (dunno)

I just wish the dealership wasn't out of the way. The whole ordeal of dropping the car off and getting to work adds an hour+ to my morning.

my solenoid came in and was installed this morning. the CEL is off...hopefully it will stay that way.

Hey man, just trying to be helpful...... if any of you guys have the extra money to spend...... you might want to take a look at this

Code Scout OBD-II Code Reader

It's $180 but the best part is it can be used on NOT just your 6/speed6 but other cars newer than 1996 that use the OBD-II codes.

You can even reset the check engine light yourself with it, if the light comes on cause you left the gas cap loose.

It's not too shabby, my friend has one, I plan to pick it up, at least it'll arm you with the knowledge of what's wrong with the car so the techs don't try to bull s*** you ;)

If your friend has one...why not just borrow it when you need it. I certainly hope my car doesn't through so many CELs that a trinket like this would be necessary.

because my friend has his own garage, and lives in Homestead, Florida....which is about 50+ miles from where my location is, not exactly a distance I want to be driving with a check engine light on and if my car isn't performing well, when I have dealer a mere 8 miles away from me :(

Plus it works for other cars you might have......such as your spouse, immediate family, kid's cars, your buddies.......etc. That and the fact that if you have mods like intake/exhaust you'll know why the light is on and whether or not it was your mod, cause I've read how dealers try to get out of repairing it and blaming things on modifications.

ouch, yea keep us posted

How did they fix it exactly? I had about 2012 miles on mine..same thing..wokr up to go to work this morning..did my usuall warm up routine then noticed that my engine light has been on. Should filling up my gas tank and not over filling it take care of the problem?

the only way to make the actual light go away from what I know of, is to have it reset..... if your car is still under warranty you shouldn't have a problem getting them to look at your car....

Or go to autozone look at the code....and reset the check engine light huh?

yeah you could do that, but some autozones' only have the OBD-II scanner and from what I recall someone said you need a CET compatible scanner (or something like that I don't quite remember)

I haven't ever gotten a check engine light so I can't help you with that code :\

Your probably talking about CAN-OBD-II...I picked one up at sears...I cleared the code and see what happens. I expereince no power loss or anything...I bet it was the weather that caused it. It was cold that morning etc.

AH yes the CAN, thanks, that's what I was trying to think of..... how much did the one at SEARs run you down for?

I've been considering getting one, just because I own a speed6 and my GF has a regular 6.

It probably could have been the weather..... but it could have also been that valve actuator thingy..... there's a recall on some valve actuator, that supposedly goes haywire or doesn't work right, especially when the weather is cold.

I think you may have gotten the notices in your mail ?
