Does anyone know where I could get a blacked out Protege emblem and mazdaspeed emblem. I found the flying M logo blacked out and the word mazda blacked out but I would really like protege and mazdaspeed black. Also Im looking at buying some euro style headlights. are Depo ones good? Seemed to be the only brand on ebay O.o

Thanks for any help,
Bnuts

I've been looking too. from what I see the Protege emblem is just not out there blacked out. I've seen the fly'n M and mazdaspeed blacked out though.
I'm just going to take them off and do it my self.
I went to a body shop near me and they pointed out that the Protege emblem would not be very readable all blacked out. So I'll do some thinking on that one. Half of what you want is out there just keep looking.

Paint one.... Its not hard to do I bought one from mazda for $7... rough it up with some steel wool or fine sand paper and spray can it black... then same thing with clear coat...

Or if you want to pay $46 plus shipping for a painted one, street...unit sells it painted

Could you give me a link to the mazdaspeed emblem blacked out please?

Thinking about replacing the protege emblem with MPS (Mazda performance Series) Logo but im not sure if that would look lame.

I dont know why but im the kind of guy that wants to do it right even if it doesnt make any sence... I know it will look the same if I do it myself and ill save money but it would bug the hell out of me having a jimmy rigged logo on my car... lol im a freak what can you do :P

I was on that same mission as well but couldn't find a mazdaspeed or a protege one already blacked out so what I did was order these two from protege garage

Then sent them down to SU and had them black them out for me. I also bought the blacked out flying M's for the front and back from SU and got them all back at the same time and love them. I took an exacto to the turbo badge to hollow out the inside of the R and the B so you would be able to see the paint of my car through them which now that I think about you might be able to do with a protege badge. It would take a little time but it would fit perfect back in the holes in the trunk. The turbo badge is a little small and doesn't cover up the holes perfectly but nobody has noticed yet. I have pics on my computer at home and will post them up after work.

I would like to see those pictures cause i have the laser blue msp like yours O.o

I painted my emblems black, and here is what i have to say. lol. If you take the time and do a high quality paint job on them, then def. paint them yourself, but, if you are going to use spray can stuff, you will end up having to re touch them every couple of months, and to me, that's not worth it. So if you want to take the time and get good paint and a clear coat then by all means do it because the pre-blacked out one's at that web site are a bit pricey...End Rant.

its too easy to just spray paint them and call it a day..theres no fancy aftermarket emblems

Here they are. I'm happy with them and don't think that I could have done as good of a job myself and I'm pretty handy with paint.

And this last one is to show off my side markers...next is the headlights and spoiler

Thank you and I used niteshade to tint the tails. tploeg0529 what did you use on your headlights?

Where can you get the crap to tint the lights, are they by any stretch legal, and how hard/time consuming is it of an application?

They are just the stockers with a vinyl kit over them.
Same as my side markers. not bad for $25 I'd say.

Yeah, they look really good. How hard was it to do the vinyls, I've never tried them before.

I ordered my niteshade online and I think it depends on where you live as to how legal it is. I know up here it's not legal but I think down in GA you probably will be alright. As far as the application, it is not that bad or that time consuming. Depending on how dark you want them you do a couple light coats and let them dry for 15 minutes or so between each coat. Then once they are as dark as you want them you let them dry for a couple hours and then put a couple coats of clear on top of them and let that dry and your good to go. Just make sure you do light coats and don't hold the can to close to the lights or you will get drips which make them look like you painted them yourself.

I agree that the cost of the flying M's from SU seems pretty steep and I was thinking I would do them myself but as I said I'm good with paint and don't think I could have done them as well as they did. I was told by Cullen (owner of SU) that they use automotive paint and clear coats to do them, if that is true or not I don't know but they are very high quality and I don't regret spending the money. I can't remember how much exactly they charged me to paint the badges I sent them but I think it was only like $15 a piece. If you go the same route I did, I would suggest you don't mention you got the badges from Protege Garage since they had beef. Just tell them if they ask that you got them off of ebay.

And Butternuts, you're gonna love that Vibrant.

hey i painted my own with krylon, the regular stuff not the fusion
and i painted the lip thing on the bottom with krylon bbq paint
really easy and came out pretty nice

I got the tint kit from ebay. It was easy to do just have to heat
them up with a hair drier to make them more plyable while applying
them. they come precut to fit the lights, and as for legal they are better than the old head light covers that everyone was using in the mid '90's. They are dark in the day and let the light shine through pretty well at night. I have a pic with just the running lights on.100_0797.webp
