Wow...

macworld08389.jpg

0.76" thin that tapers to 0.16" thin.
Intel Core 2 Duo 1.6-1.8ghz (specially shrunk by Intel)
80gb hdd (64gb ssd optional)
2gb ram
less than 3 lbs
full size and backlit keyboard
LED backlit 13.3" screen
bluetooth
wifi 802.11n
multitouch gestures on trackpad
built in camera
NO CD-ROM ... external only, but some new software that allows the "borrowing" of other CD roms... say on your friend's laptop or desktop.
$1799

Not bad for a super thin laptop. consider sony was the only real competitor at super thin notebooks... and their products go for easily double the cost. I'm not an Apple fanboy... i just like to see good products pushing the envelope (literally, Steve Jobs pulled the notebook out of a vanilla envelope during his keynote... lol)

i think it's cool. this kinda falls into a form over function though. you can do more in a macbook that's cheaper. and with the intel graphics card, it doesn't look like you'll be able to run the pro apps.

Intel GMA X3100 graphics processor with 144MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory

yeah, definitely not for pro apps... although i think the use of this notebook is probably intended for gadget geeks who like to surf the net, write their blogs, upload images to their flickr... all while sipping on their $5 starbucks coffee.

I rather get a MacBook Pro for that price.

I have a feeling the president of our organization is going to want one. He already requested an iphone.

looks like $3000 for 1.8ghz model! only three options: 1.8ghz ($300), 64gb ssd ($999), and optical drive ($99)

another apple product i won't be purchasing. it's ok but meh. and i wish multitouch would diaf. and lol @ appletv making the keynote. didn't they learn last year? let it die. anything else interesting come out of macworld?

definitely more of a fanboy product. i need fcp so cross this off my list.

multitouch is still a gimmic. the only thing i'd use it for would be rotating pics. but it's a start. when you can manipulate window sizes and other stuff then it'll be more usefull.

lol I wasnt aware that apple had a target market other than these people lol

I still don't understand how they can make a laptop without a user-replaceable battery.

well, their high end machines are used by serious graphic/video/designers/artists .... I know b/c I use one PowerMac Dual G5, 4gb ram, dual monitors, etc etc.

These nifty mass market products are for the yuppies that have extra income and like to buy gadgets. I hope that no serious designer would ever buy one. You can get much more out of the MacBook Pro.

one think i don't like about ultralight weights: no built in optical drive. While you don't need a drive 100% of the time, it's annoying when you do to deal with an external one. And the solid state drive is good. I hope more manufacturers start using them to drive the cost down further...
