Rota Wheels

ive thought about the D2 on my car (silver ms3). my friend has them on his evo and they look good. street wise their durability is great. most honda guys are haters because it allows the posers to come in but who cares. ive seen a few break but even forged wheels will split in half if you crash into a curb at 80mph. its not like any wheel just explodes into 50 pieces from taking off at a stoplight.

the d2 has a nice lip too even when getting it in 18x7.5" +48mm. i just can't get wheels yet, i got a 'tires for life' package that includes nitrogen filled tires and i have to ask if i can swap out wheels and still not void that package (because 18" tires are epxensive and when i bought the car i figured i wouldnt need to swap out wheels but i hate cleaning the stockers)

You know why they sell you that extended warranty that includes wheels replacement? cause they know the stockers is so hard to break. I was dumb to fall for it, i bought that thing, now I'm trying to contact the guy who sold me that warranty at mazda and he doesnt return my call. I called him for like 4 days and about twice a day, left my name and phone number and all but he doesnt return. I want to cancel mine and get some money back and pay that money into my principal. He's slick, huh? But i'll go there one of these days and cancel in person.

yes i have 18*8 with stock tires there streched a bit but nothing too crazy...I wanna get some bigger tires but didnt wanna just leave my stocker to rot so im wearing out to buy some new ones..no rubbing what so ever any were also breaks clear with out a problem..dono about a big break kit since im not going that rout i didnt plan for that...I got these from subby dude and they were the only ones he had that fit our cars....

looks very good. Now that's a hot hatch, i'm liking the yellow fog lights too.

I'm really gonna try the cost-effective alternative. I still have my two original tires with some threads left so i'm gonna buy only two potenzas, tarmac 3 wheels and i'll mount the old one in the back in the spring. Totally it'll be around probably $1700 will the shippings and mountings.

The P1's were $187.50 each and I paid $870 total for wheels, boring and lugs. I bet TRSpeed3 paid even less because he didn't need boring for his wheels and they are almost the same as mine (10 spoke vs 9 spoke and a couple minor differences, and different color). However, the Tarmac 3's aren't available in Hyper Black.

The tires fit just fine. If you read the specs on our tires on a site like Tirerack.com, it will show you that they safely fit on wheels up to 8". Anecdotally, I've noticed that the overall diameter of my wheel is slightly lower (speedo is off by ~1 mph, according to my gps and the neighborhood radar detecting signs). That could be due to the wheel being slightly shorter from the lateral stretching, tread wear, or a combination of both.

I plan to get 235/40's when the tread on my stockers wears out.

On a side note, for those of you curious about offset, fender clearance, rubbing issues, etc: From what I've read on these forums, when you go to an 8" wide wheel, you need a greater offset than the stock wheels because there is more space available on the inside of the wheel wells than the outside. On Swampass's car, he has +48 (same as mine) and lowered on Mazdaspeed suspension and has very slight rubbing issues on the outside. The RX-8 wheels are +52 or so and are a perfect fit from everything I've read. I have no proof, nor any links to back that up so take that information as you will.

Yep, and with a 235 even the slightest of tread style may make a difference whether it rubs or not. Some tires are more squared-off, and some have a rounded profile. This is the difference it takes to rub.

1 mph variance is considered to be within reasonable speedometer error. They aren't perfect.

Not much help to this thread yet, but I have ordered a set of Rota Boost in 17x8 ET48 for my MS3. I took a chance and also ordered RE-01R in 235/45-17. We'll see if they rub.

I'm on stock suspension for now. I don't really care a lot about how it looks, I am trying to get a fair track setup without breaking the bank. As long as they aren't boat anchors and/or look like complete ass. The Rota Boost are about 18lbs and look decent enough for my needs.

I will update with bad pics when I get 'em.

The P1's are hot! Do they not fit without boring them?

My winter tires rub even though it's the same exact size are the stocker potenzas. It's because of the deep threads, but it's nto that bad, only if i have two adults and baggages at the back.

I originally whanted to get the p1's but they didnt come in the color i wanted...Im glad i when with the tarmac 3's since im the only one so far with that rim and color....i like being diff and original...

Not sure it that's directed at me or not as I'm on my mobile. Does anyone know if the P1's will fit without boring them?

For the durability of Rotas, I can vouch from my own personal experience. I had 16" Slipstreams on my S2000 when I hit a 7ft alligator at around 60mph. It jarred the car out of alignment, but all 4 wheels were intact and unharmed, other than some blood and guts on them.
