my wife has a 2004 mazda6 S v-6 wagon. Great car and we love it! However it has this problem that is getting worse. It has the 5 speed auto tranny and when it is going from 2-3 it will sometimes slam into gear really hard. Not the usual smooth shift like it is supposed to. We just had it at the dealer for a couple recall issues and it seems to be worse since it was there. Anyone else having a similar issue? The car is in perfect shape and is never abused. It has 31k miles on it and is still under warranty. But the dealer is at a loss as to what it is. Can anyone help?

the thing probably has a line pressure issue or the fluid is burned and the trans is slipping. Check the fluid if the smell almost knocks you to the ground the fluid is bad and I would try a full flush...

they said everything was ok. they supposedly checked everything and the fluids don't need to be changed until 60k miles. but I will check.

I had a 03 MPV that used the same tranny and the same engine -VVT.

It was a known issue that with the software created the shift shock. Ask your dealer to confirm the software is correct or if it needs to be updated. I never got it got the reflash and drove it until 120k. I did have the ATF changed more frequently than required though. The guys @ mpvclub have followed and documented this issue well.

When we traded for a 6s, we went to a manual so I wouldn't worry about killing the transmission in addition to more fun and control with the stick.

thanx for the feedback. the car is back at the dealer now. It has been there a total of 3 times for this and hopefully they are gonna get it right this time. For some reason the car got all weird after they reflashed the ECU due to a recall issue. It seemed better after the reflash but then it started glitching and running weird. So we shall see what happens after this try. it seems fine then it gets all confused when shifting 2-3. It will feel as if it is in neutral and then it will bang into gear.

I will keep you guys posted as to what happens

I too have the same problem with my 6S wagon only my warranty has expired. Did you get it resolved?

nope. they didn't feel it when they drove it. but as soon as we left the lot it did it. So we are gonna wait for it to get worse then bring it back to them broken. thats the only way they will do anything.

Now I have to take my Speed6 back because it is making a noise. I am really starting to miss the Honda reliablity....but not the lack of torque.....

I will let you guys know how it goes the 4th time around.
