Chop,

That's pretty nice...for a Canon.

Bummer they stick it with a 28-135 although its probably a steal at $350. That's a nice range for a FF sensor, but with the Canon 1.6x crop factor its kind of long for an everyday lens. I like my 18-70 as a walking around lens. Nikon has an 18-135 which would be a little closer to ideal but it wasn't released until after I bought the other lens.

I'm definitely jealous of the 70-200, but not for the same reasons as most people. In fact, I don't even care that its white.

I am a professional photojournalist and I am currently serving in the Marines as a Combat Photographer. Right now I am nearing the end of my second deployment to Iraq. More importantly I am only a few months away from my end of elistment! Wooo Hooo!

So far I have had photos published in The Washington Post, USA Today, Newsweek, MSNBC Week in Photos, and possibly in Yahoo! News Year in Review for 2007 but that has not be published yet. I have also had a few covers for military magazines as well which is cool.

Currently I shoot with a Canon 5D which holds up AMAZING out here in the tough conditions! The lenses I use are a Canon "L" series 16-35mm f/2.8, "L" 24-7mm f/2.8, and "L" 70-200mm with IS. All of which I am extreamly happy with and they produce SUBERB image quality!

I want to get into automotive photography when I get back to the states and I have alot of cool ideas in mind for shooting my P5. You can check out my stuff on Flickr here: www.flickr.com/photos/sdcorum

Even though I consider myself a profesional (hell I get paid to take photos) I will still be going to college for photo journalism in the fall of 08 at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in DC.

I know jack about photography but congratulations on the publications, and thanks for serving :)

hey Chopstick,
thoes pick look nice of the lens...i imagine 72mm filters are a little more $$ than others.

The 40d looks great! i have actually gone to my local photoshop and taken a look at it. i have to say im super jealous of the new camera and the 70-200 also...that will be one of my next purchases sometime down the line...

Looking good now lets see some more pics all!

A good lens for walking around with is the Canon 17-55 2.8 USM IS. The 1.6 crop factor makes it a pretty good lens for carrying around. Plus who can complain about fast glass with IS. LOL.

How did you light these photos? Just curious.

Also...

gr, My sister in law and nephew came to visit over Thanksgiving. I took their Christmas pictures and these were a few of my favorites. I have thousands of pictures of this guy taken over the last three years.

Dude you have some wicked photos.

yeah, definitely that lens is awesome. that's my other lens (that i used to take that photo). :) I love it, the IS works great on it and the colors and saturation straight out of the camera are really good.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the white color body, it seems kinda strange to me. i've seen covers for lenses and people have even modded their body by spray painting it. I don't think i'm gonna try that. lol

Thanks! I am glad you guys like them!

Doin my best to keep my head down but everything is so damn quiet out here in Fallujah its nuts. Boring as sh!t! A little more than a month left and then I will be back cruisin the streets!

I used a 1980's Pentax flash (guide no. 16 @ ASA100!) into a white umbrella just above and to the right of the camera. The recycle time was killer and difficult to work with even with 2700mAh rechargables. I balanced the ambient using shutter speed. You can see that the image above is slightly brighter then the other because the subjects are closer to the umbrella. Its difficult to control a 3yr old sometimes.

I think its great that you are going back to school for photography. I personally think you can get more out of an education after you experience in a field. CCA+D is no joke and you'll get a very valuable education there. Its great that you get to be here in DC, especially if you want to do photojournalism in the future. Not a lot of fashion/ad photography in the area.

So when you have to buy your own gear are you going to spring for the new Nikon D3 or D300? Ken Rockwell, Canon 5D fanatic, thinks the D3 blows it out of the water in most objective and all subjective tests.

Yea, I am a firm believer that we are never done learning. Especially in the ever changing and evolving world of photography. I grew up in Silver Spring right outside of DC (10 min walking from the red line) so I know the area VERY well and I already have a few connections in the biz there.

The PJ program at CCA+D is somewhat new compaired to all the well established programs at other schools so it is still a little unknown.

I havn't had a chance to play with the D3 or even read up on it yet. Is it full frame? I want to go full frame after using the 5D. I just love the wide angle flexability!

Yes, the D3 is full-frame or FX in Nikon parlance. The sensor is 12.1MP and has ISO settings up to 25,600! It has 14-bit A/D conversion for better dynamic range, 51-point AF system, and shoots at 9fps. It has dual compact flash slots which can be used like RAID to mirror images to both cards, or to copy images from one card to another. I think Ken Rockwell said it could shoot 110 JPEGs at 9fps before it filled the buffer.

Oh, and it costs $5,000.

Ki||ian, nice pics.. really... I wish I could do the same... but I'd never be able to pass the training lol...

THanks FunkyBuddha, I added you too! I'll continue to upload pics sometime next week again :)
