Megan Racing Springs

I am currently running H&R Sport Springs, which gives the car a nice 1.3'' drop.

I just wish they were a tad lower, like maybe 1/2''. I noticed the Megan Racing springs drop the car 2'' all around. This would be perfect, and all for $120!!

The only thing is, I remember seeing pictures of a P5 lowered on the Megan Racing Springs and the ride height looked the same as mine. It could be they hadn't settled in yet though.

So for those who have the Megan Racing springs or know of people who do, could you please post pics and insight regarding them?

Thanks.

Matt

The springrates they have are very stiff...do a search and you'll find the rates, compare that to the Eibachs, Espelirs, etc...and you'll see they are much stiffer than the average performance spring. May be too much for the KYB's to take....Illuminas would be preferred to have control over the dampening and rebound.

They are something like 230lbs/inch compared with Espelirs @ 180lbs/inch..

congrats on the 1000th post!
lol

Ya I was reading up on their stiffness. So if I were to mount them on the KYB's, they would blow?

Matt

I couldn't predict they would blow, but the KYB's would not properly dampen the springs....Therefor you'd be a bit bouncy...Low, but bouncy...The Illuminas set high can control them well tho, I've heard...

I've heard a lot of good things about the springs...but they are more aggressive than I could stomach...Just my opinion....

BTW, I got a set of these off Ebay when I first started modding this car for like $60 bucks shipped...So I wasn't bitching when I sold them for $75.00

Did you ever mount them on the car?

And so I'm guessing the handling would be worse if I kept the GR2's on... right?

i got them on mine. the drop is not 2" its about 1.8 in the front and 1.6 in the back. either way it looks good.

i dont have a side pic. but this is the best i could do
2nd pic is rear wheel, 3rd is front wheel

its about 1.5 fingers between tire and fender in rear, and 1 finger up front

I'm running the MeGaN springs...

I'm using MeGaN springs and I love them. They are stiff, very stiff so if you are going to get them, and you want them to perform at their best, you have to pair them up with the Illuminas or something similar. Any stock or similarly rated dampeners will not give allow the springs to provide you with the performance or comfort they can provide.

Comfort...by this I mean that you'll be bouncing all over the place with stock(ish) dampeners. Won't blow your shocks prematurely since the springs do not lower nearly as much as they advertise.

Photos below...

The first three are with the springs and an unloaded vehicle. The last two (with the cabin in the background) are of the car with the MeGaN springs and fully loaded (Adult passenger, two kids, full trunk, full rooftop box and bikes on the rack.

Personally, I love these springs combined with the Illuminas. The handling rivals that of my Neon with KW coilovers. Not quite as good but definitely up there.

Just curious what size rims, offset and tire size are you running and do you rub any?

My summer set-up is:

ADR Revolution 5
17X7
-39mm offset on the front (3mm spacers)
-42mm offset on the rear (no spacers)
General Exclaim tires
215/40/17
Rubbed before the fender rolling.

Winter set-up is:

Stock 16's
Stock tire size
Hankook Ice Bear
5MM Spacers all around
No rubbing, ever.

What shocks are you running and how's the ride on them??

factory tokicos
its stiff, but its not bad. i mean yea you feel more bumps in the road, but i like that feeling, so it doesnt bother me. but for the most part the ride is nice. i just need to tighten up the struts a little bit (gotta get an impact though)

Springs at what drop?

I'm currently running a set of Drag Dr17x7 with a offset of 40 w/ shoes of 205/45

I am not an expert by any means, however I just put a set of Tien S-Techs on my P5 and they are awsome. Dropped my car 2" w/ stock struts. I am getting a set of Tociko HP's soon. Should ride like a champ

The MeGaN springs...about 1.6F, 1.8R.

It didn't rub all the time...only when the rear was heavily loaded with cargo + G force or over deep potholes or high camber situations like steep ramps or turns onto steeply banked streets.

As is now, with the set ups detailed above, I get no rubbing whatsoever...

Could the stiffness of the shock prevent the car from being lower than it should be?

I'm sure I read this somewhere...

Matt

yea factory struts wont affect the drop too bad. its a significat drop over stock though. but you wont have to worry about scraping unless your going down something really steep (i scraped my crossmember and tranny pan leaving my driveway for example, but i have a hella steep driveway)
as far as hitting the front bumper, the only thing you have to watch out for is curbs and parking space dividers, you wont clear those.
the car will have a semi raked stance with these springs as they drop the front lower than the rear. but it looks good.

Hey What Springs Are Better

The Megan

Or The Sprint Springs..

I Know The Sprint Springs Are Like @ 60 Dollars More Expensive Than The Megan
And They Both Have A 2" Drop

Give Me Some Pointers If Its Better To Buy The Sprints Or The Megan...
