tuners worst nightmare

So keeping the stock down/mid pipe and using a CBE, we can assume there is enough back pressure to maintain the seal (hence Mazdaspeed's CBE option). This would mean that adding the PG manifold BEFORE the turbo, shouldn't induce leaks, right?

I have just a test pipe and mine started smoking a little while back. I'm pretty sure there are some stock exhaust guys with the same issue as well.

Mazda obviously knows this is an issue as they have changed the turbo part numbers on the new replacement turbo, most likely indicating a design change.

The removal of the cat would obviously make this look worse as much of the smoke would be stopped by either of them... but at the same time fouling them and your O2 sensors. If they fail, you're looking at quite a bit of cash to replace 2 cat's and 2 O2 sensors.

I know a few people with full catbacks have had their turbo's replaced under warranty.
Have any info on those part numbers? Or when the fix may/may not have been implemented (dates or VINs or whatever)? Thx

Here are all the parts that were replaced on one guy's. I don't know the part # for the original turbo, but I do know it's different than the one shown below.

It looks like Jessie is getting to know your car very well. Anyone have any idea if this is going to be turned into a recall?

From the amount of money Mazda is going to have to put forth for parts and labor, noway. It'll be one of those discreet underground situations that will arise when someone bitches that their car smoking, ect.

^agreed, because this isn't a drastic issue, or safety related. Not even everyone has the problem. It would cost Mazda a fortune to replace everyone's turbos unnecessarily.

Too bad for us, we'll just have to hope that our cars are clean for the issue, and that if it does show up, that dealers will repair even if exhaust mods are present.

I wonder if Mazda dealers would be willing to forfite the factory replacement turbo for a supplied (owner bought) upgraded turbo and install that one instead... Hmmmm????

You'll loose any claim to warrenty and they will charge you for the installation.

OK and warrantee, but if they are already going to R&R the turbo, why not just install the upgraded one...? The work is till going to happen regardless... Just a thought...

If it were me and I had (God forebid) a smoking turbo...why not just pony up for an upgraded turbo...you know you guys are eventually going to do it anyways later on...

going about 65 i put it in 4th gear and gunned it on the highway to pass someone blew a good amount of smoke out the back kinda whitish i would say no exhaust mods just CAI and ETS TMIC . I'm guessing maybe its my turbo seals ? Car has 19,500 miles on it ...

^^^That's normal.... that's the richness in the tune and the air velocity catching up to the fuel you just dumped in...

Not if it was white smoke.
