loud *POP* when cold and in reverse

Hi all,

I have recently been running into an issue with my 07 speed6. Every morning after I've let the car sit for a while, I start it up and when I put it in reverse something pops near the rear of the car.... it sounds like I ran over a bottle or something. I also notice that when I apply the breaks at the first 2 stop signs out of my apartment, there is a weird kind of grinding noise coming from the rear of the car (Same place as the pop)... after I go about 1/2 mile all of this is gone.

I have no idea what the problem is - I baby the car and it only has 4550 miles on it. This is only when the car is cold and has been sitting for a while (5hrs+). Let me know if this is a common issue.

check your rear axels and anything in that area. might want to take it to the dealer and have them check it out up on a lift.

it's this simple
your car was wet or there was moisture present
your car sat for a while
your parking brake locked up and you broke it lose

it happens sometimes....
no worries

Agree 100% with Whooosh here. It has happened to me a couple of times and like osirislink, I have a little over 6,000 miles on mine. No concerns...

it is the brakes. If you put on your parking brake in cold and rainy weather the pads will kinda fuse to the rotors. They will stick until you move the car again. It is a pretty loud clunk but I don't think it is a big deal. It happens to me when it rains. Not sure if there is anything that the dealer can do with it other than put in non metallic pads. But I don't think they will do that....

I agree with everyone else, it's just the brake rotors. Living in Florida you get this all the time. The E-Brake will seize to the disk until you move and then will "pop". When you first hit your brakes you'll hear a "sandy" grinding noise from the rust being removed from the rotor.

I'm hearing the same thing here in the mornings (NJ). I thought it might be the brakes freezing, so I'm glad other's are having the same experience instead of it being an issue.
