Exhaust Sound

Hey guys! I was wondering if you could answer a quick question for me. I heard that after about a month or so after having a new exhaust system put on it gets a bit quieter after if kinda breaks in. Is there any truth to this? I wouldn't mind this as my new exhaust is quite a bit louder than stock. Thanks in advance guys! (mj)

I have seen some that mellow out with age. Overall volume stayed the same but farty raspyness went away.

Thanks for reply Craig. I wouldn't mind it mellowing a bit, but as for the sound I think the Magnaflow is awesome. Deep and aggressive without being over the top in any way. I highly recommend this exhaust for anyone that owns a M3.(first)

Yaknow Magna flow is the only exhaust I had to take back off a car because it sounded so horrible. The muffler had a really bad resonance and rasp on decel.

You must have been unlucky then. Most people I have talked to have loved the Magnaflow setup. It fits perfect on my car, and the sound is very good.

+1 for my spec v i ended up cutting the muffler off and replacing it with an apc and it sound way better. But as long as you keep your cats it should be ok

I've had the opposite experience. The Magnaflow and Flowmaster systems I've put on V8s have gotten better with age (nasty). I installed the Mazdaspeed upgrade a week ago on my MS3 and it sounds better with a week on it then it did when installed - much more rumbly...

I think that each exhaust has it's own sound really as most are hand made and have some unique characteristics. I think as long as you go with a reputable company and have an idea of what sound your looking for your going to be ok.

HAHA my experiance was my brothers Spec-V. Obviously Magnaflow stuck their heads in their asses on that one. I also had put Stillin long tube headers on it also so the car had even more bark to it.
