Calling Down Pipe Owners!!

OK, I'm looking for a new mod...

Whats the deal with the Down Pipe (DP) on our cars...?
(And yes I've searched, but no really good thread/info.)

First of all, who makes DPs for our cars? I have only found two:
-Cork Sport DP
-CPE SS DP

Second, is this a worthy mod if you are planning to keep the 2nd Cat (current mods are only a MS CAI)? And dyno plots on stock cars (CAI OK)? What HP/TQ number should one expect from a DP?
I understand that the CPE deletes all Cats therefore making greater gains?

Is the DP mod as rewarding at the MS CAI...?

Seems like I'm leaning towards the Cork Sport since it does not delete all the Cats... Any owners out there want to describe their review of this pipe?

Third, CELs!!! What is the story with DP and CELs? I read somewhere that deleting the first CAT you get a CEL? What about the second one? Any resolutions to prevent the CELs?

And finally, talk to me about exhaust odor/smell... When I deleted my Cats on my Miata, my exhaust odor was horrible, plus I got increased soot and exhaust carbonation on my exhaust tip and rear bumper... Not very comfortable when coming up at a red light and having a cloud of sticky exhaust fumes hovering in your face... LOL (It wasn't really that bad, but the smell wasn't great; unburnt/raw fuel)

Thanks guys, just looking for something to keep me busy during the Christmas vacation time...though a nice install of something on the car would be great!!! LOL

Merry Christmas!!

CPe gives you the option of no cat or a high flow cat, high flow cat = no CEL's

Corksport does not use any cats and you must do a mod to the o sensor in order to not throw a cell.

Both offer awsome gains in hp and tq due to their much better design vs stock.

CPe has dyno graphs on their site.

Personally, I plan on using the CPe catted DP as we have a sniffer test here in WI. Since they are a pain to install and remove it's a no brainer for me.

Removal of the 2nd cat wont throw a cell.

no cel no odor smell....but fuel cut.....make sure before u choose tbe route.... becuz fuel pump is almost a must to go with tbe

So with a MS CAI and a TBE I will reach fuel cut? Even though I am running stock boost pressures?

Another question: Compared to the Cork Sport DP with stock 2nd Cat vs. CP-E DP with high flow Cat, which will produce more power? Which one will be easier to live with...CELs, sound, etc...

Thanks again!!

i cant speak for corksport....my cpe tbe is not that loud....it quiet down after it break in......few of us have fuel cut issus with i/tbe.....laloosh/Finkle/me to name just a few

i would say yes cause i dont see how an exhast and cai would cause fuel cut. they should be bolt on and go mods.

the CAI and a TBE will allow the air flow system more flow. In a turbo car, it would be natural that an easier flowing exahaust and intake would raise boost, as the engine works less to produce the same results. Especially seeing as that a turbo is exhaust gas driven, if their is more exhaust gas, its going to spin faster. I doubt though it is anything over one-two psi at WOT.

I would have thought the ECU would control that... (uhm)

corksport
turboxc
cpe
If you plan on running the stock second cat forget about cpe as its a full dp that replaces the midpipe as well. Also you WILL get fuel cut with only i/tbe if you live in cold weather.

I live in Florida, so cold weather shouldn't be a problem... Though, what happens when you reach fuel cut...? Do you get all the power until you run out of fuel...? Is that a danger to the engine?

With the CP-E DP, the Cat that is included with the DP, is that a primary Cat or a 2nd Cat...?

cpe is a primary cat dp. What happens when you hit fuel cut? you run out of fuel and the engine runs lean. did you miss my fuel pump posts? lol

No, your post is what started my quest for a new upgrade!!!

Anyway, very interesting thread...but I don't want to go that route just yet... If your engine leans out, don't you run the risk of blowing it up?
Or does it lean out safely; still within that safe range...but not giving you the full potential for power...

Basically, I don't want to blow my engine!!!!!

I will probably be getting the cpe downpipe. They integrated an o2 sniffer in the emissions testing from what I've heard, and I do not want to have to deal with ******* around and installing the old downpipe. I would eventually want to replace the midpipe anyway. I also definitely do not want check engine lights. and i know that some people are getting them without the cat

yea, running out of fuel = running lean. All it takes is i/tbe and stock boost to hit fuel cut in the cold weather. Personally i dont want a couple degrees in temp. deciding if my car runs lean or rich.

laloosh, what did it feel like to upgrade the DP...? Was it similar to an intake upgrade? I felt the MS CAI was an awesome upgrade!! Turned the car into a beast (first-third gear)!!!

I'm wondering if the DP will make similar results...

can't tell you honestly. i was running an intake gutted 2nd cat and 17-18psi. PUt on the full exhaust and ran 15 psi, so it felt the same to me, and started fuel cutting
