iPod Integration

What's are the best and most cost-effective ways to integrate an iPod into a stock P5 stereo system? Is the iPod Integration Kit from Protege Garage any good?

buy an auxmod. It takes the place of the stock cassette deck and puts in an aux input. Very easy to install yourself and only costs round 70 bucks I highly recommend it.

I'll third the greatness that is the auxmod. It works great and was way cheaper than the similar product from the dealer.

Auxmod

Do you guys have pics of the installed auxmod? Where does the input go? Does the input wire (stereo jack) actually just go into the back of the system or is it visible (removable)form the front? I'm not sure if it is clear what I mean but I can't think of a better way to put it...

The auxmod plugs into the stock head unit where the tape or mini deisk player would go. You can take off the front blank panel and it goes in there. It would be far easier to take the stereo out to do this, but it can be done without taking out the stereo. The input into the auxmod is just a normal headphone jack, like the one that you plug your headphones into on an ipod. I just ran a cable from that down the center console and out a slot above the cup holders. Others have run the cable into the center armrest, and in the spring I might do that. As for pictures, I didn't take any, but the head unit looks totally stock. The only thing you can see on mine is the cable running out of the bottom of the console.

Auxmod works great... pretty sure there is a great how to in the how to section... just do a search.

Auxmod works quite well. Get a long enough cord to route cleanly and you're golden.

/and they're local to me, so that's just a bonus

I don't own one, but.....

Judging by the description and the way its set up, it is a purely Auxiliary Jack adding mod. Not designed to work with anything in particular. What does that mean? It means that anything with a headphone jack can be hooked up with a double-male cable. Your laptop, Zune, iPod, old record player... Heck, with an RCA-male headphone adapter you could plug in a DVD player.

Am I right or should I just go hide in a corner? ;)

^^ No corner for you. It is just an aux jack. If you can get the cables and connectors you could hook anything with an audio line out. So if you have an old 8-track player, for example, with an audio out you could hook that up.

You may not of HAD to replace the 8-tracks with CDs, but wasn't it totally worth it hear K.C. in the best sound quality possible. Most bands I would say you wasted your money, but when it comes to K.C. and the sunshine band, no cost is too high.
