2008 Srt 4

I just wouldn't be able to live with myself if I was driving a DODGE! I NEED to be in a Japaneese car.

Heh. I've never really heard of someone who needed to be in a Japanese car. They are a bit sterile, a bit souless, and there's a degree of disconnect involved.

It's been my experience that they are reliable and solid values for the money. If VW could make a car like the MS3 for the same price and reliability, I'd be all over that. I know, you're being a hypocrite buy saying you prefer European cars..but am I? I mean, don't the europeans take the whole "driver's car" approach?

I like Japaneese imports because of the way they are made and they are reliable. And yes I know alot of my hondas are made in the US but they are still Japaneese to me. I just get a "feeling of quality" with Japanese cars and a "feeling of crap" from US cars. I am sure some of this stems from the fact that most US cars have automatic trannies and they always crap out on me while Every Japanese car seems to be offered in manual so I can get the trans I really want. I just really dig Japaneese performance cars RX7, Skyline, Silvia, EVO, STI, supra, Civic Si and the speed3 are all cars I like. The reason I put Japan > Eroupe is because of reliability. Euro cars are more unreliable when the get older.
I have always thought Dodge is junk. Look at how their transmisions blow out all the time. Just crapy products in general. If I was to go domestic I would go with Ford or Chevy.

I see your point as the japanese have always seemed to be ahead of the performance and tech curve than any other makers....now the dodge tranny statement...from a performance stand point they have some of the most solid transmission on the market now...case in point are any of the srt vehicles. I have owned several mopars and none have ever had trans issues.

Although I'm not much for the looks either, my Wife is going to get one. I think it will be a great bang for the buck car with 285 hp and 265 lb ft of torque. Unfortunately it has an electronically limited first gear like the 3. It also wont be near as track capable as the previous srt or the 3. I will let you all know how good/bad it is when we get one.
P.S. Yes, I tried to get the wife to get a MS3 but she wont have any of it. I personally love them and might rock one after my SRT has run its course.

How do you know it's limited in 1st gear? I have yet to read anything about that on the caliber srt...please fill me in.(braindead

One of the car mags I subscribe to wrote up a 'first drive' and noted that Dodge opted for wheel braking traction control instead of an lsd and they mentioned nothing about torque limiting. I believe you're getting all the ponies in all gears.

Oh yes brake driven sort of lsd but nothing about limiting hp/tq in 1st...still waiting to see what he says about that....(uhm)

Let me see if I can find something about it.

Here is some good info, but, I cannot remember if I heard it here or not. I will keep looking.

"We would prefer a proper mechanical limited-slip differential to the SRT-4's traction-control-based arrangement. With the so-called Brake Lock Differential, a wheel speed sensor detects wheelspin and applies the brake to that side to force the transfer of power to the other side. As a rule, we think that applying the brakes to make forward progress is the wrong approach."

My mistake, it is actually Brake Lock. I read trac-control and thought is was electronically limited.

Cool vid and not a word about its competition. :) I think we still have the Caliber over braking as if I remember correctly, the Speed3 stops in 116ft from 60-0 and we also have 280 ft/lbs of torque. Not a bad car but I still prefer the Speed3.
