Thanks go out to Ken at ProtegeGarage.

I called one afternoon a couple weeks ago, and Ken had my order shipped out the door that same day. Awesome service and forum reputation to match.

A buddy and I installed the K&N Typhoon on my P5 last weekend, and its been great having it on the car. Total install time was about 2 hours. First intake I have ever installed on any car, and for my buddy, first intake installation on a Mazda.

The CAI is dead quiet, you cant even tell its on the car when youre driving. But when you punch he gas and the car revs up past 4k, you hear the CAI sucking noise.

Im sure if I converted it down to a SRI, it would be louder and more noticeable while driving around.

Anyway, enjoy the pictures, and let me know what you think!

Nice, looks promising. I'll stick with my SRI though considering the winters we have down here...

How much did this all cost you, if you don't mind my asking?

Matt

nice looking intake.

And you may be surprised how you like the noise an SRI makes ;)

im gonna have to agree with this on both parts.
intake looks great!
and the SRI has a very nice deep growl too it. ive got a bomz (ebay) sri on my protege5 and love every minute of it. it has a nice sound to it even at idle cuz you can hear the intake drinking air, and once you romp on it just sounds mean.

I paid $260 shipped for it from ProtegeGarage. Worth every penny.
My favorite part of it is hearing the hiss when I turn the car off. Im probably going to convert it to a SRI within the next few week if it starts snowing, shouldnt take more than 30 minutes.

Im planning on getting a header soon, just trying to save up right now. Thinking of going with the Thunder header, if theres any more available from that group buy a while back...

I got the same one, install was easy...You didnt break the purge control valve? congrats

I just got the injen from protegegarage also, I have no complains about it, and you are right, not to much sound, kinda stealth.

Why would you convert it to a SRI for wintertime? Unless you drive bumper-deep into a puddle/lake, it shouldn't be any more of a concern than driving at highway speeds on the highway during a mid-summer down pour.

I have never converted mine , I drive through deep snow and have never had a problem . The filter is well protected when it is mounted .

I suppose its more of a paranoia thing. I would rather drive knowing my engine isnt going to blow from having snow caked around the filter than get stuck 200 miles away from civilization on the overpass trying to get home.

Looks great - love the red (cool) I've been running mine for over two years, you do get what you pay for ...

totally identical to my setup. red on yellow looks great.

i converted mine to sri a long time ago, and have left it that way because of the sound. stomp on the gas and it sounds so nice! i wish i would get a good feeling of acceleration to back up the sound, but we all know the p5 is kinda lacking in the go-power. regardless, its still an awesome car to drive!! p5's ftw!!

If I am able to pick up a header, what color ceramic coating would you guys recommend for my current color scheme and set up?

If you didnt get the coating, how likely would the header evenly purple, if that makes sense? I tried searching for some pictures, but no real luck.
