Cutting TMIC Plastic Grating Out???

Anyone thought of doing this? I have no idea if it would allow more air in, but it couldn't let less in!!! I don't see it really protecting the TMIC anyways, hows something big enough to be stopped by the cover to get up in there anyway? Anyone got any ides? Also you think blocking off the battery Airflow would allow more air in?

One last thing I just thought of? If we were to go with a Cobb FMIC could we use a normal 3's Hood then? That would look pretty sweet.

you can cut it off... I doubt you'll notice any difference though.

If you put a front mount on, you will probably be able to go with a regular 3 hood, however there might be piping coming up and over the valve cover that requires that extra little bulge. I'm not 100% sure.

I cut mine out.I cant really tell any diffrence but it must be a little better flow. The top and bottom of the cover blocks over a inch of the IC so I cut off that also or maybe its just the top part.I cut it with my dremel and put window sealer foam tape stuff around the edge of the cover so it forces the air thru the IC and not around it and onto the VC.Its a free mod and must let air flow a bit better then stock.

i cut mine out too. if you crunched it all up youd probably be blocking about 20% of the actual flow. so getting it out of there has to help at least a little. its not going to hurt anything anyways so give it a go. dyno the change for me while your at it. lol.

fmic's dont let air in, they just let air blow through there fins. if it makes a difference it will probably not lower the air temp and if it adds hp maybe it will be .0000001 and it will ruin a nice piece of the car

I don't know, the more I look at it, it seems to block allot of the TMIC. If it does block say 20% of the TMIC, I don't see how that wouldn't be like having at least a 10% increase in efficiency. I live in Florida and I will not be spending 1000 dollars for a new TMIC (Rather save for the Cobb FMIC, though I probably wont go that route either). I'm just trying to get this thing to run as cool as I can make it without major warranty killing mods. So far Ive done these things to keep under-head Temps under control: I realize nothing magical on here:

1. Redline Synthetic MT-90 Gearbox Oil
2. Redline Water Wetter with no AntiFreeze just Water.
3. Motul 5.1 Synthetic Brake Fluid
4. Castrol GTX 5w30, changed at only 800 miles, going to go to a Full Synthetic in 2 more changes, either Royal Purple(Which now Walmart sells) or Mobil 1 5w30.

I know some of you are probably like wheres the CAI, well thats coming, want to break her in while shes running nice and Rich, plus I wont mod anything on this car unless someone comes out with Engine Management (CPE or Cobb AP). Everyone whos modding already has to know, the real power lye in the Engine Management. If we could get just the throttle plate problem fixed with the CPE or Cobb AP, I think allot of us will be more then satisfied, I know I would.

Walmart sells Royal Purple now..I didnt know that.I may switch from mobil 1 if they have it at my store. Thanks

I know. sucks that there basically based in China, I blame the Government way more then us people, we got bills and sh%$. Cheapest will always win for same thing, sorry small town family business's, I use you when I can. That is unless you live where theres not enough people to warant a Wal-Mart. I know I'll be picking up 6 quarts of either Mobil 1 or Royal Purple there tommorrow. I'm torn between the two, ive always used mobil 1, but been reading some bad about it lately and some good about RP, also reverse way too, you forum guys know what i mean.

im running mobile1 at the moment and i dont have any complaints yet. ill run royal purple on the next change and see how we do. although i am sitting on 6 quarts of mobile1.....eh...it can wait.

I think that trimming the stock cover could help a lot. It blocks the top and bottom edge of the IC and believe it or not but the dumb louvers do slow air down.

IMO you guys are wasting your time. But if it makes the BUTT dyno feel better more power to ya'll. :D

TMIC will always get heat soaked, the elaborate ducting in the hood Helps extrememly once rolling, and the only way to gain any power would be to get a different/larger TMIC.
