I'm about to purchase a 2001 protege dx. I'm looking to just (for right now) make the exterior nice. It is completely stock right now, the color is black, with no spoiler. I was thinking of putting a spoiler , 17" rims (chrome or black?), tint , and maybe a body kit. Any suggestions on what type of body kit to add, and any examples with it added on would be great. Nothing to crazy on the body kit though. It's not like im gonan be hauling ass in it and i dont want i't to look like it can if you know what i'm saying. I'm only 16 and really don't know much about cars . Oh i have about 2.5 grand to spend on the kit, rims/tires, and spoiler and tint. Should be enough? Thanks a lot!

p.s. i really like the style of the mp3's and the mazdaspeed protege's so anyhtin that looks like that, or even is that if that's possible, would be nice.

My 1999 Protege with MSP sides and rear skirt and Mazda front lip:

That looks sick i'm not gonna lie. Looks clean as ****. And i still haven't gotten to see my future car in person yet, but is ur car a new paintjob or just nicely waxed? Cus that black looks clean. And proes i like that kit a lot but im lookin for somethin a little more subtle. Thanks a lot for the idea's though.

Edit: Hey 99Pro, can u link me anywhere so i can look how much it would cost to buy/instal what you did. because i think im sold on the msp sides and what do you mean by mazda front lip. Like i know what the front lip is, but what mazda lol?

his front lip is from the mazda accessory line-up for the 2001+ protege sedan. here's some shots of my car with the same kit.

if you want, i can get you the front lip kit for cheap. just send me a pm with your zip code. however, i cannot get the sides or rear skirts.

i think you should go with njaremka's setup.......also Enjoi, you should probably think it out about getting this spoiler....you'll love it if you see it in person.

Here's another shot of njaremka's front lip on my car:

This lip really makes the front end of the car look nice. When I look at pictures of my car before the lip, I go "eewww!"

its not my car but yes it has the front 01 air dam and looks to me like the mazdaspeed side skirt and 03.5 rear lip and 03.5 spoiler. its nice isn't it?

Thanks dude! The car is not newly painted or nothing....just a couple hours of waxing and getting it all shined up.

I bought the front lip from njaremka for I think around $150. As for the MSP sideskirts and rear lip I bought them off a wrecked car on here for $300 for both. As for painting them....I can't even remember. I think like around $200.

So you can get the front lip from njaremka and then there is a group buy right now for the sideskirts and rear lip in the Protege Garage section.

if you're even considering putting aftermarket wheels on a protege, install springs first

I'd go in this order: springs, short shifter, a bolt-on axle-back like the Mazda Sport exhaust, tint - still well under $1k

once these basics are done, add wheels & tires per your taste (verifying proper fitment of course)

IMO a body kit is never required, although the oem lips discussed above do enhance the look of the car - I'd do this step last once everything else is done and you've decided if it's really necessary

my now-sold '02, no body kit required:

it was low enough with the springs that I didn't have to add lips to the body to make it look lower

Nice, another DX (hi)

My car was a DX once. I got a MSP front bumper, side skirts and lip kit and left it wingless. But I got a great deal on the parts, if your budget is low I would recommend the sedan lip and side skirts as others have. I'll add that you should remove the black side molding, the car looks much cleaner without it.

Heres an old sig with before and after shots:

dude do you think it matters or not if i remove the side molding on a black car?

I would notice it myself, but most people won't. It was a necessity in my case though.
