Just a ? for you heavy HP hitters out there.

how many did you put on?

For the record tho, that sounds like a pretty good N/A build (without going fully built internals, etc).

lol, people would do the same thing to me in school and make fun of me for having a 4 banger.

i have a header, not headers. lol

I wanna see a full p5 swap with a wrx wagon, the hole shabang. But then again I also wanna see 2 really hot chicks making out in my room right now (only to invite me in eventually of course). We can't all get what we want is the morale of the story.

Hell if everyone's wishful thinking in here I want the AWD setup from the JDM Sport 20. Hell, I'm still debating on trying to get one imported over here just so I can swap over my current setup and have a turbo AWD Protege5...

yea but whats wrong with all those bolt ons i listed above? that gives you a decent amount of power. i mean high 14's to low 15's is not slow. plus its 100% street driveable. if anything, the engine runs better and there is no risk in any of the upgrades.

fine its not the fastest thing for the strait aways, but on turns my car is fast. its got great power comming out of turns. the other day i was beating a gt mustang through turns. on the strait away, he got me though. lol

whats the deal with all the complaining? how much power does everybody want???? even a low budget turbo kit would be safe and give you power. am i missing something?

on the dyno, our cars have no power. on the street, the cars arent that bad. my car doesnt feel like its got 120 whp, thats for sure.

Yea, i have no power and have learned to deal with it. It is an econo-box and thats what i wanted. If i want to go fast, i get on my bike.

does anybody else have quarter mile times with NA bolt ons. im sure someone else can get to the same place as i want to be, right?

16.1 was my best time N/A

that was with every bold on available at the time

aMaff - LOL come on man why you always got to throw me under the bus? I know I know you're right but come on how the heck am I going to put a finger on a more specific set up considering theres what, 1000 plus different combinations to make decent power, so pick one :)

I'm just sayin that theres a lot of potential with a properly built Civic and I want to know if theres that same potential with a Protege.

Thats still to generic. What motor are you talking about in these civics. If your talking d series then yes the protege's fsde can stay with, even out do most turbo civics. When you start to get into the b series your chances start fading especially with a b18. K-series is a whole nother ball game, the fsde will never be able to match a boosted k-series.

People always forget that Honda's rev higher, giving them the ability to host bigger turbos, because they can support the RPM needed to spool them up, and make HUGE power up top.

I don't know about that. I rode in my friends 1992 Civic Hatch this weekend for the first time, and it has a turbo D-Series running at 16psi. It's putting out 260hp, but with how light the car is it just takes off. A guy in a newer GTO wanted to race at a light so we did and the result was bye bye GTO. I was amazed with his car. And the best part about it is that this is his winter car. Hahaha

And by all means it’s not like I'm loaded, I just love to build cars so I'll do everything I can’t to squeeze every last red cent I can’t to get the parts I want.

*High Five*....you are what's known as a true *Hot Rodder*. I feel the same exact way...do it for the love of cars. I will eventually make a *Street Rod* out of my P5 and damn how much it cost. I've only been on here for a short time also and my inspiration came from reading what BrianMP5 has gone thru with his P5. Its a great read what he has experienced building his engine from the ground up. Great luck building yours and keep us posted..I for one will follow and take notes.

this is true that a turboed single cam can make some power but it usually doesn't last long as the D series engines are notorious for spinning rod bearings when they are boosted. spun rod bearing= bye bye motor.

More than luck to you, man, but there is a whole range of problems you will run into as the HP numbers go up. These consist of and are not limited to:

-Stock clutch goes out well before 200 whp (duh!)
-Stock internals are really only safe to around 225-250 whp (yes I know people have gone higher - 505zoom - but for the average person 225-250 whp should be the limit for the stock internals)
-Transmission internals start to go at 300 whp (who knows if an auto)
-Above 350 whp the axles will go
-Above 400 whp ??? (the only person I can think of who's reached this is CWill)

I'm not saying you can't upgrade these parts but the cost just goes up exponentially with HP. Personally I just can't justify going above 250 whp with these cars - above that I think the car will start to lose it's functionality. I just want a P5 that looks good and has the speed to go with...

some of these numbers are undercut a bit
