The wifes CX-7 has 5,000 miles and I had to put it in the shop for an oil leak. Dealer called me back today and said the transfer case to transmission gasket is leaking. Going to be a week for the gasket to come in from Japan(jerkit)
Anyone else have this issue or am I breaking new ground here(argh)

No loaner for her, not a real issue as the wife ownes a used car business and just took one of the cars from the lot.
The car is AWD.

Well, you should have gotten a Loaner car, Its in the warranty. I hate when my Dealer doesn't even offer me one, I go to a different one just because of it.

Yes, my transfer case started leaking about 11k miles, I think. Didn't take quite a week to get it back. At least your dealer found out what it was on the first shot--mine thought it was engine oil.

I had this issue... took the dealer over a month to get the new seals.

repair process is about 4-6 hours.

You'll start to notice a horrible burning fluid smell if you drive it on the highway for a while... it's disgusting.

I wish this took 4-6 hours, he has 16 hours into it and the service manager said he's a little bit past 1/2 way done.

1/2 done after 16 hours? I'm missing something here? or is this a mechanic "in-training" without a shop manual. That is a joke-I think?

The dude could of had the motor and tranny pulled in that amount of time and it back in or well at least they do that in my friends garage in that amount of time.

Just an update on my car saga...

It's still in the shop, they lost a bunch of parts during and are now waiting for amoung other things screws for the turbo.
The wife is bouncing off the walls, thank god for the Capt Morgan (drunk) or I would have to pease at all.

5000 miles on mine and it appears I have the same problem.

Brought the car into the dealership today and was told they have to call the Mazda tech line on Monday to find out how to remove the bolt that is blocking the transfer case (that's comforting).

I have an uneasy feeling it will be at the dealership for quite a few days. They gave me a Mazda 3 as a loaner; a base model with no power windows, door locks, etc. Just a stripped down base model.

Not thrilled but what do you do.

Oh yeah. Brought the car in two weeks ago for the same issue (oil on garage floor) and the dealer assured me there was no leak.

It appears they were incorrect.

I would of bitched for at least a loaner with pw and pl. However im with you on the comforting comment... I don't know about you but after this issue I would start to take it to another dealer.

*Update*

Service advisor called me today to inform me that it is indeed the transfer case. He told me the part wouldn't be in until the 28th.

Told me I have two options: 1) I could keep the fully UNloaded Mazda 3 until my vehicle is fixed or 2) I could pick up my car and drive it until the part comes in on the 28th.

Obviously I chose to get my car. He assured me I could do no damage to the vehicle by driving it.

When I arrived at the dealership tonight, I asked if I should just bring the car in on the 28th. He said that the part isn't going to be there on the 28th, but that it would be "released" on the 28th and that he had no idea when it would actually arrive at the dealership. *sigh*

I asked if the part was being shipped from Japan and he said he had no idea.

The saga continues.

I did b****. But I figured I would pick my battles. Yeah, I am quickly losing faith in this dealer.

I think there is some confusion here. There is no way this fix takes only 4-6 hours.

My 7 has been in the shop for two days and it will be ready tomorrow evening at the earliest.

I have the senior tech working on my car (I was told he has 20+ years experience and has done this repair a number of times) and he has at least 10 hours into it already. He is about half way done (hasn't even started to put the vehicle back together yet).

They are replacing my transfer case; not just the "seals" as you mention in your post.

It is a MAJOR repair to say the least. I am just hoping they don't end up with extra parts left over at the end of the job. Because I can sure as hell guarantee you they are not taking the car apart again to figure out where the extra parts go.

What a pain in the ass.

I have this on my CX-7 GT also. I noticed it around 9000 miles. Dealer changed oil and saw it but told me to monitor it. I called today at 9900. I mentioned that other people had seen something related to the transfer case. They ordered some parts and are going to have me bring the car in next week with a loaner.

Well as I started this posting I guess I should post the final out come of my wifes car problem.
It took 20 days for the car to come back from the dealer. Recieved a check from Mazda to cover the rental car and they are also paying for 1/2 of the months car payment.
