Mazdaspeed 3 Factory "Sport Exhaust" Noise

I want to install the factory sport exhaust in my Mazdaspeed 3 to complement the CAI, which has been very successful. However, I'm reluctant to change the exhaust without ever hearing the system. Has anybody in the Boston area installed the exhaust? Could I have a listen? I would really appreciate this.

it isn't worth it at all from what i've read... no gains to be seen from a cat back exhaust. if you enjoy the sound of the stock exhaust, i'd just leave it that way.

jump in the group buy for the turbo back system.

thats true. i'd either do that, or get a downpipe and test pipe if you want some gains... i personally haven't gotten my test pipe yet or downpipe but from what i've heard, the gains are incredible.

The exhaust has little to no gains except for DB levels and since you seem to be somewhat concerned about the excess noise i would think "enough said".

Just my $.02

Here's a quick vid I took at NHIS a few Sundays back. Guy running has a CAI and MS exhaust. I personally love the sound.

Well I am strongly thinking of throwing the credit card at the package if there is 10 people but if not I will just spend the extra $50 later on and pay cash in a month or two.

I really would love to feel an extra 40hp from this system if that is really accurate. I would like to see more talk about this package to confirm the gains as well. Have any where I might search around at?

If you're getting a TBE you really need to be investing in an engine management package as well

WTF you talking about man. Coming from a guy who just posted the CAI has no felt gains, lol.

In the other thread it has been discussed there is no need for a tune for an exhaust.

I don't know Whitey, I think I may need to purchase a tuning solution. I threw a code for running to rich during idle. I reset the ECU approx. a month ago today and I haven't had a CEL yet. If it does throw the code again then I must get a tuning solution.

Atleast my money was well spent considering my O2 sensors, and bung holes are operational. CPE's craftsmanship is superior.

WOW!

Good to know man tell me more because I dont know much about all this just what I have been reading and Ken had said that with his new TBE package there is no need to tune for exhaust.

I am reluctant to spend $900 on anything other then bills but I thought the TBE would just kick ass and be worth it.

Could you tell me more about the ECU tune because if that is true I am not going to do it. Also what about install? Is it a true bolt on do it yourself kinda thing or do I need to pay a shop to do this?

There are many factors that are keeping me rfom diving in and smog was one of them but I figure when the time comes to sell it I can bolt back the stock DP and leave the CBE inplace to pass right? Now if I need a tune how do you do this and how much?

Also looking at the CPE it appears that there is no need for a test pipe right? it looks like the DP and CBE do the job or am I missing a piece?

PS when you say CPE is better are you saying that the corksprot and PG test pipe wont be my best buy and I should go for CPE instead? Only issue is that its like 500+ extra over the package Ken is offering from corksport and vibrant. However if that cat makes it Smog legal it woudl be worth the extra cost to me. Sorry for all the questions but if you dont mind I could call you up some time so I can get some good advice and tips. I would like to better understand all this and it seems since you have done it you could help me out a bit.

I have it on my MS3 and love the sound. It's deep and has a real nice tone to it without being overly loud and there is no drone in the cabin. Also I live in Manchester NH which is only about 50 miles from Boston.

Obviously you realize I was talking about the TBE. If you're going to get the factory "sport" exhaust I wouldn't get a tune either. When discussing TBE systems it's always good to bring up engine management as well.

My bad I guess the guy selling it might be wrong. Ken from PG said there is no need for an ECU tune on exhaust but knowledge pretty much knows first hand that it might.

Look, if you're seriously looking at TBE you'd better be ready to get engine management as well or your car is going to run like s***. I don't know why that guy says that, maybe because EM can be expensive and he doesn't want people to back out of buying his TBE.

But you can't seriously be looking into upgrading your car without some form of EM.

Yes the full TBE from CPE is good to go Whitey. No need for a test pipe. Yes it is straight bolt on, but I would recommend a mechanic. Considering having the right tools makes the install alot easier.

Well s*** now I have to find out for sure about a ECU tune because if so that would really dick the warranty and thats not something I want to do.

What all is envolved with an ECU tune anyway?
