WOW I'm dumb...

Alright, so I'm finishing up tucking in all of my wires and such lastnight. For some dumb reason I'm trying to cut a hole in the carpet under the right side of the driver's seat (at the bottom of the center console bump) and instead of getting my other hand behind to guide/feel and make sure everything's alright, I just shove my pockentknife on through.. *spark* something grounds on the seatmount... hmm... well, nothing was burning, the wire was just barely knicked into. I managed to tape it up. No problem... so I do the rest of everything and finishup. Go to take a spin aroudnthe block, and crankcrank, nothing.... HOLY CRAP I JUST KILLED MY CAR!... I'm not sure if any of you have ever done something this dumb, or had that feeling rush over you, but trust me, it fuggin blows. My first New new car that I've worked hard to get (including bike-commuting all of last year) and I've managed to make it not start. So after about a half hour of panic, I decide I need to get myself together. It's midnight, and I have to drive to work in the morning. Not to mention everyone I know has already been giving me crap for digging as far into a new car as I have been.

Walk to the qwick-e-mart for a strawberry milk (strange comfort food sorta thing I guess) and calm down and I start thinking again... Alright, so the spark was from one of the big bunch of wires runningback along the center console. I follow them back a ways, and determine they must run to Taillights, perhaps my factory sub, and more importantly, the fuel pump... think, yea no fuel pump would allow my engine to turnover and not fire. Follow the wires in the other direction, they tie into the HUGE bunch that goes through the firewall under the glovebox.. Follow follow follow, takes me to the fuse box that's kinda in front of the battery. open it up, and sure enough I've got a blown Fuel pump fuse. One problem... they're WEIRD fuses. So I start looking at what else's in there. nothing, no luck, and it's after midnight, and another jog to the minimart cements the notion that they've only got standard fuses... Then I remember reading a how-to in here for retaining power window function and recognizing the same kind of fuse. Hit up the driver kickpanel fusebox, and sure enough, power windows use a pink 30A elongated block kinda fuse. Most importantly it's something I don't absolutely need to have functioning. I go back to the important fusebox spot, pop it in, cross my fingers and everything fires up and runs just fine... WHEW!

So it's now 1:30am, 18degrees outside, my hands and face are numb, and my car's even more torn apart than I've had it for the past couple weeks while I've been slowly installing my stereo. And thismuch isn't something I can just drive with. So I get to spend another 2hours putting everything back together. Fortunately this includes all of the pieces I've had halfway off and such for putting in my amps, I figure as long as I'd had it stripped down that far I might as well just take an extra couple minutes and do it all and be done. The plus side to this all is that my car's install's now complete (well, until I think of something else I need to do)

Anyway, WOW that was quite a thrill ride. And just for sitting through my drawn-out boring story of being retarded, I know it's early, but think it's time to start spreading some holiday cheer.

ahhh, The fun of modifications. :) Glad it turned out ok, when I first started I had a similar problem. Thanks for the story I needed that. (rofl)

Yea, the real dumb thing is I ENTIRELY know better. I've been dorking with car stereos, etc for over 10years now. and I'm more or less fairly meticulous. I can say that this was one of my last little nip and tucks and it was the only one I wasn't being overly cautious about. Perhaps due to late-night and cold and just wanting to get it over with. And it just happened to be right into a pile of vital wires...

As for the pic, well I was really digging for you guys to find stuff, it's actually from last year.

Somehow, after reading that long story, I knew it would be followed up with a nice pic:D

hehe...I did something like this when I was trimming my molex plug. Knife slipped through and trimmed a little bit of one if the wires. Now, when I set the alarm, I have to make sure the lights go off. Maybe I should check the fuses to make sure nothing went...hmmm.
