Wow!did I Read Right?

Yeah, he got rid of it to start work on domestics again. He wants to be in the 9's, and he wanted a lil more horsepower out of a daily driver.

Hehe- most of the 9's s*** was to just talk smack to the Honda guys. I do have a mid-10 second (should be- know when I get my slicks) all motor 94 Z28 with a 396 stroker small block. I will be spraying that and it should go nines on the spray, but that isn't my main goal. I actually traded the MSP in and got a 2003 Mustang GT convertible that I plan on turboing this winter. I don't know, I miss the MSP and part of me wishes I kept it, but honestly with what I wanted to do to it, it was not worth the effort or $$$ into a brand new car to "only" run 12's or so then replace the trans everytime I nuke it :(. I wanted to start with a more solid foundation. I was actually just "kicking around" the idea of getting rid of it, but I went to visit a friend who is a salesman at a ford dealership- it was a nice day and I saw the white GT with black top and charcoal interior sitting in the front of the lot and it turned into an impulse thing.. My fiancee fell in love with it and the color combo had me sold!! It is just a nice daily driver which will handle a lot more abuse than the MSP. The thing that will make you all proud though is we got the run the GT vs. the MSP on the test drive (my friend drove the MSP) and the MSP spanked me- he had me by 3 cars or so when I hit 3rd, so I just let off :)..

The main reason I wanted to get back into domestics is I have been building Imports for over 7 years and no offense guys, but the new import crowed sucks (for the most part) and it is almost embarrassing to be a part of :(.. It is all people trying to sell over priced s*** that does nothing for real performance and people bragging about BS parts that were $1000 :). I got my headers, x pipe and cat back for less than what an import exhaust goes for- and it is two pipes not just one :).. The vendors know that people will buy the stuff, so they price gouge like mad :(.. My friends have been building domestics since I started with this crap and they are all 9's and faster- I could have built a 7 second TT big block car twice over with all the $$$ I've pissed away on imports :). They are good for fun street cars, but can't handle what I would put it through- if I could leave my MSP where it was, it would have been perfect- but I had much higher goals.. Couple that with the baby s*** I have encountered here (not all of you, of course) and the parts that I have broken over the years trying to run 500+ hp through stock Import drivetrains (the only option for most imports) and it just wasn't worth it anymore.. I got tired of people saying my HP#'s were BS and blah blah blah. It was my car, I could care less if you believe me or not, but why would I make it up? I got tired of explaining myself to a bunch of assholes. It just pisses me off...

Anyway, I will still be around and I will be working with some other vendors on new parts and ideas for the MSP, so don't worry :).

Joe just figured out that a modded MSP would never hang with a modded DSM!
Unfortunately this is true.
Matt:)

They "can" if both were standalon cars and all, they would have the same potential. But the Mazda ECU blows. Actually, I sold my DSM too- I almost ended up divorced before we even got married for that one :).

I know what you're talking about Joe. Honestly, sometimes I feel embarassed riding down the streets in the Speed because of all the crap thats out there. Big wings, exhaust and stickers all make you fast now in the world of new import owners. It really makes me sad, what used to be a small group of people trying to tune a Toyota 20R turned into an incredible market frenzy as the cars got faster and better looking.

Nowadays everyone is hopping on the bandwagon and I just feel like giving it all up. I'm really not the asshole that I come across to be, I'm just a guy thats pissed off at what this industry is becoming. It used to be the elite few, and we really actually tuned the cars. We just didnt add vinyl, tint a cold air intake, exhaust and call it a day.

I remember the days sitting out in the sun, or in the garage, pulling motors, swapping cams, porting rotor housings and beefing up clutches. Its like it's all slipping away and the meaning of what a tuner has become has totally changed. Everyone that owns an import now is a tuner, and thats just not true.

I really blame Honda alot for what the industry is becoming, I know without them it wouldnt be as big as it is today, but I liked it when it was just us enthusiasts, us people that really cared about what we were doing and most of the time we did it right. Nobody knows how to tune anymore and the real people are becoming more uptight about it, but thats not good for the kids out there that actually want to learn and learn right. If it wasnt for guys like Ari Yallon, actually teaching me things and taking the time to show me right from wrong, I wouldnt be where I am today.

I've realized that even though the industry maybe headed in a downward spiral, this is where my heart is. My soul is attached to these cars and my spirit drives me to succeed where other people have failed. It's up to us that have been here for awhile to show people what to do, and how to do it right. My allegiance to this car company and this scene has held steadfast throughout the years. Maybe the fad will fade out, and only the true tuners will be left, but I dont know.

I will always be with the import scene, but I may just die with it ....

Sorry to hear it Joe, thanks for all the insight and work you have done for for us. Did you leave your 3" exhaust on the car when you traded it in?

I ordered a MBC to help you out with that new Mustang's payment.. :D Thank you for all of your help. You still going to come around here?

i know where both of you are coming from (or can understand it at least) and i share a similar viewpoint. if it hadn't been for my dsm though i wouldn't know s*** about turbos, tuning, fuel maps, etc... (but i do know what rice is, and always have) those guys still share information about what works and how to do things the right way, and as a whole i think the community (mostly the remaining people on dsmtalk that have been there for a while, if i go to dsmtuners i want to kill myself 10 mins after i start reading) is strong and knowledgable. i really gained a lot of tuning knowledge from them and hope to apply some of it to this car but pick up some reliability. in a few years once i get out of school i hope to get a 92 awd dsm and keep the msp as a daily driver if tuning it turns out to really be a pita, but it's all still fairly new so hopefully someone will turn out something worthwhile. oh, and as far as tuning goes, when i was reading that thread on clubrsx or something and someone said they were a tuner and had done like intake, exhaust, etc... it just made me sick because odds are they have never tuned anything in their life and wouldn't know where to begin.

Arrgghh- don't even get me going on the DSM sites- they went downhill a lot in recent years :(.. Back when it was only the Talon Digest, it was a much better crowd. Even Todd gave up on that due to all the BS now :(.. The only DSM board I really had a lot of respect for was the NABR board- people there know their s*** and will boot you with 100% non-P.C. reasoning if you piss them off :).

Sounds Like I need a DSM and then some HOUSE CLEANING!!!
