Window TINT question

Hi there
Will be tinting the mazda 5 with ceramic tint. Deciding on what % to go with.

The rear window and third row window has the black thick surround. Do you think going with ligther tint there, will make it clash?

Thanks

If it's Pinnacle Formula 1 ceramic, their 50% will easily reduce heat than most other brands' 35%. But for aesthetics, I'd recommend wrapping the hatch, third, and second row glass @15% to match the factory black pillars. This would create a one piece factory glass wrap around effect. The fronts can fade to a lighter 35%. If you want a total one piece look, try all 15 or 35%. Your problem, being in Calif, is the very light 70% requirements for the fronts. IMO, it would look odd with dark 2/3 back and a lightened front.

Not worried about CA rules. That said, would the 15% match the factory look you are talking about?

I am going same on all windows, so it will have to be 35% all around. Hope that doesn't look too silly on the rear.

Hey 90210. Yep 15% would match the black OEM glass pillars. I had it on my 4 door GTI and it matched the hatch's black outer portion of the glass as well as the black plastic B-pillars. My fronts are faded to a lighter 20%. Below are some pics for review.

Here, take a look at this GTI with 50% and you'll see 35% all around isn't a bad compromise. Keep in mind that darker colored vehicles also makes tints appear darker as well. And, do the 5's come with some sort of factory tint in the glass?

Thanks for that 50%. I think 35% is good for me. NO TINT from factory at all.

Car is copper red.

90210, I will have to see how your tint looks like. I'm sure it will be good. I'm on the fence whether to go 35% all the way around or 35% front and 15% rear and hatch.

All my other cars are 20% all around. I have one car where rear is darker than front, and it looks ghetto.

So the 5 will be tinted same all around. However, won't go that dark this time, going for lighter, for some personal reasons.

Thanks for the pics! Very helpful. Interestingly your 3rd row glass and rear hatch (I was worried how light tint would look with the big OEM blackout area) looks darker than the rest of the car.

Is that ceramic or metallic?

It's a trick of the lighting why the rear looks darker. I guess I have metallic tinting, whatever is "normal" and not upgraded. The local shop that specializes in it only gives the option of percentage, not material.

Thanks. Since I won't go too dark, I am worried how the silly outline on the rear hatch and 3rd windows will look on my car..I suppose we will see.

Hey 90...

Did you have your 5 tinted yet? Mine is scheduled this Thurs for 35% LTV. I considered 50% (just because I love the panoramic view from the inside) but this is still a good compromise.

I haven't tinted yet. My tinter will come to the house and do 4 cars, and he keeps getting busy. I don't think it will happen till end of this month. I will wait to see how you the 35 looks on the rear lift gate and the 3rd row, with the huge black surrounds.

looking forward to some pics

BODEGA please post pics if you can on Friday or Thursday.

My tint guy called, appointment Sat morning. So want to see yours before deciding 35/50 ceramic.
